1. Why are you selling?
I don't want to but expenses and inflation being what they are, I need to save more cash for retirement, so it's time to put my hobby on the back burner. I love, love, LOVE this car and it is a ball to run on the track!
2. What is the history of this car?
I purchased the car in January of 2019 at a local dealership, used. It is a 2016 Nissan 370Z Base 2 door Coupe. Total sale price was $23,479. She had 30,631 miles on her at the time. If you are someone who knows what it costs to build a stock car into a track car, you can only imagine the amount of money I have invested to get this car to where it is today. We started with the basics, including brake calipers, rotors, SS brake lines, sway bays, front upper control arms, oil cooler, racing fuel pump, 6-puck clutch with light weight flywheel.
3. Any accidents?
If you are asking about on-track accidents, yes, I've had a few. It's part of the learning process when you are driving at the limit on a racetrack. Most incidents have been limited to spins, some on track, some off. I've bumped the Armco a few times, primarily resulting in some dings and dents in the RPF1’s. The biggest incident was 2019 when the car understeered into Turn 4 at Palmer and while I got her slowed down to about 35mph, that was when I caught the tire wall at about a 45-degree angle. I have the video of this incident so you can see it if you are so inclined. As she climbed the wall, I got to 0 mph but unfortunately, she was high enough on the wall to roll over. This resulted in the car coming to rest on its roof. The roof, both the left and right front fenders, front bumper, right rear quarter panel, passenger side door and windshield were affected. The A and B pillars are stout as is the frame and everything remained square and in place. About $17K in damage and my performance mechanic and crew got her back together quickly. This resulted in the removal of both OEM seats and seat belts and the steering wheel and resulted in the installation of the custom roll bar, Cobra racing seats, SCHROTH 6-point harness system, Sparco removeable steering wheel and replacing all the damaged fenders, quarter panel, passenger door, roof and windshield. I actually performed to roof removal and install myself.
4. How do you store everything in the off-season?
For 2019 and 2020, the 370Z was stored indoors. The trailer was indoors for 2019 and part of 2020. In late 2021 I located an outdoor covered storage location and both the 370Z and trailer were stored there. I have since moved the storage closer to home and both are still stored outdoors but covered. Slick tires and wheels are stored in my garage, so they are not subject to any extreme cold weather.
5. How is the car on track?
This is a very well-balanced car. She is very neutral and does not oversteer or understeer. The coil overs, suspension and Pirelli slicks have a lot to do with that. She's a heavy car, at 3,200+ lbs., but she is stout, balanced and fast. I've done pretty much nothing to the engine itself, so the 320-340 HP is stock. She still has a cat-based exhaust, stock air intakes and no turbos.
I change the oil after every other track day. Alignments are constant though for the most part, not really needed. Tire wear is very, very even on both front and rear though I do rotate the tires every track day. She is corner balanced at the beginning of each track season, usually in April or May.
7. How many track days and where?
I just hit north of 50 track days covering 2019 thru 2022. Most are in my area, with Palmer Motorsports Park being the favorite though I love Lime Rock and have been there at least 9 times. Palmer, Thompson, Canaan, NHMS, Club Motorsports, Watkins Glen, Lime Rock and VIR are the tracks that this car has seen more than once.
8. Do you have the equipment, pieces, parts you've stripped out of the car?
For the most part, no. I've tossed most of it. If your intention is to get this car back on the road, it's going to be expensive. This is a track car, through and through.
