Kicking off on January 27 at South Georgia Motorsports Park, this annual drag-and-drive spectacle spans four NHRA member tracks and nearly 1,000 miles of street driving. From Bradenton Motorsports Park to Orlando Speed World Dragway, and concluding at Gainesville Raceway before circling back to South Georgia, competitors will face grueling challenges on and off the track.

Sick Week is no ordinary racing event—it’s the ultimate test of speed and endurance. Over 300 street-legal drag cars will battle it out, aiming for the coveted five-second time slip, a benchmark that has eluded most since Tom Bailey’s historic 5.99-second pass at Hot Rod Drag Week in 2019.

Photo: NHRA

The Heavy Hitters to Watch

This year’s lineup promises an epic showdown, featuring some of the biggest names in drag-and-drive racing. Fan favorite Brett LaSala is bringing his Snot Rocket 3.0 Mustang, a steel-bodied beast with a Coyote engine platform that’s already clocked a 6.04-second run. LaSala’s incremental improvements to the car could push it into the elusive five-second territory.

“There was nothing wrong with [2.0], but as you try to go faster, you reach limitations in different areas,” LaSala explained. “We’ve been testing and believe this car has the five-second number in it. Everything will have to be perfect on a run, but we’re at max efficiency.”

Bryant Goldstone, a dominant force in 2024, is racing against time to complete his new Corvette. Powered by an SMX engine built by Brian Robbins, Goldstone is aiming for the power needed to make five-second passes.

“We’ll need 55-60 pounds of boost,” said Goldstone. “The current big-block Chevy engine wants to lift the cylinder heads past 42 pounds. We still have some work to do, but we won’t compromise. It’ll be ready or we’ll take the Javelin.”

Meanwhile, Sick Week founder Tom Bailey is gearing up with his refreshed Sick Seconds 2.0 Camaro, sporting a 1969 Indy 500 Pace Car livery and chassis upgrades. With a history of 5.77-second runs in drag-and-drive trim, Bailey is confident about the potential of this year’s event.

“There’s something in the air this year,” Bailey said. “The conditions are there, the cars are there, so there’s no excuses. Someone is going to smack one out of the park, and I hope it’s me.”

The Countdown Begins

With just days until the engines roar, the excitement for Sick Week 2025 Presented by Gear Vendors Overdrive is electric.
