While most racing series are concerned with starting their new 2024 seasons and enticing fans to their tracks right now, IMSA is conducting its second round of competition in what\u2019s normally known as the 36 Hours of Florida and announcing 2025 scheduling for its WeatherTech Sportscar Championship and Michelin Pilot Challenge.<\/p>\n

When you know who your partners will be in a coming season, this early in the year – it\u2019s mid-March, folks – that alone is a pertinent sign that your series is healthy and you\u2019ve got your feet firmly planted on the Go pedal.<\/p>\n

This writer has always thought John Doonan was a perfect successor to Scott Atherton. Well-versed in IMSA\u2019s history since the late 1960s and its current affairs, the former boss of Mazda Motorsports has elevated IMSA to premier sports car status normally only enjoyed by the ACO, the Automobile Club de l\u2019Ouest that sanctions the 24 Hours of Le Mans. Doonan has proven me right over and over again.<\/p>\n

In a gathering of stakeholders the day before the Mobil 1 12 Hours of Sebring at Sebring International Raceway, Doonan revealed the slate of races that will make up 2025 events for both IMSA\u2019s WeatherTech and Michelin Pilot series.<\/p>\n

\u201cOn behalf of my teammates at IMSA, I am proud to be able to announce our schedule for 2025 at such an early date,\u201d Doonan acknowledged. \u201cThis was made possible through a great spirit of collaboration with our promoter partners, and we are grateful to them for enabling us to make our 2025 plans known today. Putting next year\u2019s schedule into everybody\u2019s hands so soon allows fans, competitors and partners to get well ahead in planning for an amazing 2025 season, even with so much of our 2024 season still to come.\u201d<\/p>\n

The WeatherTech component of IMSA competition will once again offer an 11-race schedule that includes five endurance events comprising the IMSA Michelin Endurance Cup. The Michelin Pilot Challenge features a 2025 10-race campaign, including a single stand-alone event in which this series is the featured race.<\/p>\n

IMSA\u2019s 2025 season will commence at Daytona International Speedway, site of the 63rd Rolex 24 at Daytona, with its annual Roar Before the Rolex 24 test and qualifying session and then continuing to the winter classic. The group\u2019s 36 Hours of Florida concludes with the 73rd Mobil 1 12 Hours of Sebring, the second race of next year\u2019s 11 competitions.<\/p>\n

Following its stay on the beaches of the east coast of the United States, the WeatherTech series heads for the 50th Acura Grand Prix of Long Beach for its first shorter race of the year, a 100-minute sprint. From there the GTP and GTD classes travel north to WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca in Monterey, California for a 2 hour, 40 minute contest, before returning to the acknowledged home of American automobile, Detroit and a 100-minute battle on those city streets for both GTP and GTD PRO classes.<\/p>\n

Watkins Glen International in upstate New York retains its familiar late-June slot for both WeatherTech and Michelin Endurance Cup schedules, with all four classes on the docket for the first time since Sebring in mid-March. In July, LMP2, GTD PRO and GTD headline at Canadian Tire Motorsports Park in Bowmanville, Ontario Canada, IMSA\u2019s sole visit north of the U.S. border.<\/p>\n

As July becomes August, look for all four classes at Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin\u2019s Road America, a favorite for both race teams and fans. VIRginia International Raceway, located near Danville, Virginia is the lone GT-only race of the 2025 schedule, scheduled August 22-24, with the spotlight firmly on GTD PRO and GTD, the latter traditionally the most populous of IMSA\u2019s classes.<\/p>\n

IMSA returns to Indianapolis Motor Speedway’s road\/oval track the weekend of September 19-21 with both the WeatherTech Championship and Michelin Endurance Cup taking on its fourth endurance race with the six-hour Battle on the Bricks, while the season concludes with the always-exciting Motul Petit Le Mans 10-hour race that traditionally crowns all championships in the WeatherTech realm.<\/p>\n

IMSA\u2019s Michelin Pilot Challenge, too, begins its 2025 campaign in Daytona Beach with a four-hour battle the day before the Rolex 24, held after this series\u2019 Roar activities. Round 2 takes on Sebring the day before the 12-hour race, before a break in the schedule that ends May 10 with two hours of racing at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca.<\/p>\n

The second four-hour race of the Michel Pilot season is scheduled for June 8 at MId-Ohio Sports Car Course, where this series is the weekend headliner for the second straight year. Watkins Glen International wraps up the first half of the 10-race season, with a two-hour race the final weekend of June.<\/p>\n

Canadian Tire Motorsports Park hosts the Michelin Pilot Challenge\u2019s sole Canadian visit with another two-hour battle, and from there, teams go to Wisconsin for a two-hour bout at Road America. VIRginia International Raceway hosts the Michelin Pilot racers in late August, while the series makes its third straight visit to Indy September 20. The series concludes its schedule, crowns its champions the same weekend as the WeatherTech series at Michelin Raceway Road America, their two-hour contest taking place Friday, October 10.<\/p>\n
