Hendrick Motorsports is celebrating its 40th anniversary in the NASCAR universe, after beginning its journey as a team at the Daytona 500 40 years ago.

While not successful at the outset, the team has helped Jeff Gordon to four NASCAR championships and 93 victories in the Cup Series, as well as seven titles for Jimmie Johnson. The reigning 2024 Daytona 500 champion, William Byron drives for Hendrick Motorsports, as do Alex Bowman and former champions Chase Elliott and Kyle Larson – each claiming a single title – so far.

Now Rick Hendrick’s HendrickCars.com is heading for the Xfinity Series, entering 10 NASCAR Xfinity Series contests during the 2024 season with the No. 17 Chevrolet Camaro. Each of the organization’s four NASCAR Cup Series racers, Bowman, Byron, Elliott and Larson will make appearances in the vaunted No. 17 Camaro during the season, with a special appearance by road racing ace Boris Said.

The No. 17 is a special car number for the team as NASCAR Hall of Fame driver Darrell Waltrip drove it to nine wins for Hendrick Motorsports from 1987 to 1990, including his famous single victory in the 1989 Daytona 500. The late Ricky Hendrick also drove No. 17 in a variety of contests, including the NASCAR Camping World Truck Series in 2000 and 2001.

The schedule begins at Phoenix Raceway next weekend with Byron at the wheel for the first of four starts, his No. 24 Cup Series crew chief Brandon McSwain calling the shots. The remaining six races will be called by 2014 Xfnity Series champion crew chief Greg Ives, who has 15 NASCAR national series victories to his credit.

Kyle Larson will take over the No. 17 at Circuit of the Americas on March 23, while Byron returns to the driver’s set on May 11 at legendary Darlington Raceway. For the Memorial Day weekend, look for Chase Elliott to pilot the No. 17 at Charlotte Motor Speedway May 25, while Said will have his one-off on the Sonoma Raceway road course June 8.

Alex Bowman takes the wheel on New Hampshire Motor Speedway’s mile oval on June 22, while Larson returns to Xfinity Series competition on the Chicago street circuit July 6. Byron will race the No. 17 at Pocono Raceway July 13, while Elliott competes during the second Darlington date August 31. The HendrickCars.com Xfinity Series schedule ends September 14 with Byron tackling the Watkins Glen International road course.

“The No. 17 is a big part of our story, and it would be special to see it win – and win often – during our 40th anniversary season,” Rick Hendrick declared. “The sponsorship has been a big success for HendrickCars.com and our dealerships,” the team owner and chairman and CEO of Hendrick Automotive Group stated, “and we’re pleased to add more races and take it to another level in 2024. it’s victory lane or bust!”

Hendrick Motorsports’ partnership with Spire Motorsports is bringing HendrickCars.com to the full, 23-race NASCAR Craftsman Truck Series (NCTS) for the 2024 season, with Rajah Caruth at the wheel of the No, 71 Chevrolet Silverado.
