Following the passing of Peter Mullin in September 2023, the Mullin Automotive Museum has announced its permanent closure on Saturday, Feb. 10.<\/p>\n
Established by Peter and Merle Mullin in 2010, the Oxnard Museum aimed to educate visitors on 20th-century French automotive styling and design. It showcased the finest vehicles, sculptures, and artifacts from renowned French master coachbuilders, housed in an elegantly designed structure spanning nearly 47,000 square feet. The museum, formerly owned by legendary newspaper publisher Otis Chandler, featured expansive gallery spaces, a roof garden, theater, gift shop, and archival storage.<\/p>\n
Peter Mullin, driven by a passion for Art Deco design, dedicated himself to sharing it with the public. In a bid to continue this legacy, the Petersen Automotive Museum will now receive four of the collection’s most iconic vehicles: the 1937 Talbot-Lago T150 CS \u201cTeardrop,\u201d the 1938 Hispano Suiza Dubonnet, the 1939 Delahaye 165, and the 1938 Delahaye 145. During a major overhaul a decade ago, Peter played a significant role in transforming the Petersen Automotive Museum into a globally respected institution.<\/p>\n
Merle Mullin, director of the Mullin Automotive Museum, expressed gratitude to the staff, docents, volunteers, visitors, and supporters who dedicated their time and passion over the past 13 years. The museum will be open on a limited basis until Saturday, February 10, providing an opportunity for past and first-time visitors to bid farewell.
