Superstar Racing Experience (SRX), created by Sandy Montag and The Montag Group, investor and former NASCAR COO George Pyne, NASCAR Hall of Fame racer and crew chief\/team owners Tony Stewart and Ray Evernham has announced the postponement of its fourth season.<\/p>\n
Initially announced in summer of 2020, SRX debuted on CBS\u2019 broadcast network in June of 2021 and moved to ESPN for its third season. Using spec cars designed by Evernham, with chassis construction by Fury Race Cars and naturally aspirated Ilmor 396 cubic-inch V8 engines that are customarily raced in the ARCA Menards Series, each race featured well-known drivers competing in these spec cars, together with the occasional local contestant, performing in heats and feature races on short tracks to meet a two-hour broadcast envelope.<\/p>\n
\u201cIt is with deep disappointment that we announce the postponement of SRX\u2019s fourth season,\u201d a statement from the principals said. \u201cWe entered the next phase of our racing series with great anticipation and excitement for what was ahead. Our expectations, however, have been tempered by market factors that have proven too much to overcome.<\/p>\n
\u201cTime has run out to put forth the kind of events our fans, partners, drivers and tracks deserve. We\u2019re thankful to each for their commitment, their contributions and their support as we brought a new idea to reality,\u201d the statement continued.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe racing industry continues to evolve and we are actively exploring strategic options for the series\u2019 long-term potential. We made this announcement now to allow our partners the time and flexibility to best serve their interests. We will provide updates on future plans for SRX when they\u2019re available,\u201d the statement concluded.<\/p>\n
Tony Stewart is the series\u2019 most successful driver with five victories in SRX\u2019s 18 races held to date and the multi-talented racer earned the first year\u2019s championship, while third-generation INDYCAR star Marco Andretti took the 2022 title and NASCAR\u2019s Ryan Newman was last year\u2019s champion. The 2023 SRX season was the first to be marketed as a Thursday Night Thunder show, moving from Saturday to Thursday nights on ESPN and that was expected to continue this year.<\/p>\n
While the first edition relied on some retired racers, many NASCAR stars were enlisted for single events, including Denny Hamlin, Kyle Busch, Brad Keselowski and the recently retired Kevin Harvick. Rising star Hailie Deegan has been part of the rotating group of drivers, as had INDYCAR racer Paul Tracy and legend Willy T Ribbs.<\/p>\n
SRX\u2019s five 2024 dates were scheduled from mid-July through the middle of August this year, at Connecticut\u2019s Stafford Speedway, Vermont\u2019s Thunder Road International Speedbowl, Slinger Speedway in the Wisconsin town of the same name, Michigan\u2019s Berlin Raceway and Cedar Lake Speedway, another Wisconsin short track.<\/p>\n
