It’s been a fun season for those of us following the Ultimate Streetcar Challenge as it moved from track to track across the country. When OPTIMA Batteries announced the new format for the challenge this year, along with the countrywide search and competition, we knew we were in for a good time. Drivers could bring their vehicles to some of the country’s most legendary tracks: Daytona, Laguna Seca, Road America, etc and take the car through tests of speed, endurance, artistry and design. \u00a0Autocross, a Speed-Stop Challenge, and a Design & Engineering Challenge preceeded the final Hot Lap challenge on the road course so that judges could evaluate every element of these cars which must qualify under the Ultimate Streetcar Association regulations.<\/p>\n

Ultimately, 91 drivers were invited to compete in the\u00a02014 OPTIMA Ultimate Street Car Invitational held over the weekend of November 8-9, 2014 at the Las Vegas Motor Speedway, with 10 more competitors selected during the SEMA show. \u00a0The competition involved an autocross run on symmetrical side-by-side courses which allowed vehicles to compete at the same time on identical-but-opposite courses, along with the other challenges.<\/p>\n

Ultimately, 2011 challenge winner\u00a0\u00a0Danny Popp in his\u00a02003 Chevrolet Corvette Z06 took top honors. Congrats to Danny, and all of the other competitors. Click HERE to see the rest of the results.<\/a><\/p>\n
