Three-time and reigning NHRA Camping World Drag Racing Series Funny Car champion Ron Capps is more than a one-trick pony. Yes, he\u2019s accumulated wins in both Top Fuel and Funny Car, but he\u2019s also turned left – and occasionally right – in a variety of cars.<\/p>\n

Now the Californian is preparing to be part of the Superstar Racing Experience (SRX) field at Tony Stewart\u2019s Eldora Speedway on August 10th of this year. Capps will be the first straight-line racer to compete in the SRX series, won the first season by Stewart and the second by third-generation open-wheel star Marco Andretti.<\/p>\n

\u201cSRX pretty much took the motorsports world by storm three years ago,\u201d Capps reminded. \u201cWe all grew up watching the IROC series and Thursday Night Thunder was something I never missed as a fan. To have those two things together is a dream for both the fans and race car drivers,\u201d he said. \u201cIt is such an honor to be selected to join the SRX series this year. I\u2019ve been a huge fan of the concept to the point where we would make sure we got to a TV when we were at our NHRA races to catch the SRX races.”<\/p>\n

Thursday Night Thunder was a regular must-watch program for fans of dirt-track racing, as Capps stated. The SRX series will conduct all six of its races on consecutive Thursday nights at 9PM ET on ESPN and the ESPN app, bringing back the iconic \u201cESPN Thursday Night Thunder\u201d branding.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s incredible to know that I\u2019ll be joining some of the best racecar drivers in the world on such an historic and fast racetrack, Eldora Speedway,\u201d Capps continued. \u201cThe coolest part is for our NHRA fans to know that they can tune in and watch one of their own battle with the best on the high banks. I\u2019ll be a little out of my comfort zone, but I\u2019m going to try and make our fans proud.\u201d<\/p>\n

Don Hawk, the CEO of SRX has always made a point of inviting a variety of drivers to race at the diverse tracks on the SRX schedule. \u201cRon is the first NHRA driver in the history of SRX to join the ranks of the very best circle track drivers in the world. I\u2019ve seen Ron drive a straight line in NHRA so many times, I\u2019ve lost count! He\u2019s also a three-time World Champion who\u2019s not a total stranger to dirt racing. Ron\u2019s a great guy, he\u2019s good for racing, good to and for his sponsors, and will be very good for SRX.\u201d<\/p>\n

Some of the current and semi-retired drivers who have been competing in the SRX series include Bill and Chase Elliott, Tony Kanaan, Paul Tracy, Willy T. Ribbs, Hailie Deegan, Ryan Blaney, Ryan Newman, Matt Kenseth, Michael Waltrip, Josef Newgarden, Ryan Hunter-Reay and Helio Castroneves. The schedule for SRX finds the series keeping to the eastern seaboard and going into the midwest for its six dates this year:<\/p>\n\n\n\n
