\nSEMA and PRI put out a joint statement today announcing that, despite bipartisan support and efforts on the Recognizing the Protection of Motorsports Act (RPM Act) designed to protect racing and race cars, the act did not move forward in Congress before the closing of the 2021-22 session.<\/p>\n

The challenge remained finding appropriate language that balances protection of race cars and parts with EPA restrictions that govern daily drivers. Various members of the race community, including Antron Brown and Richard Petty, testified in from of congress in support of racing, and more than 1.5 million letters from the grassroots race community should the importance of advocacy. Much of this effort, presumably, has been driven by PRI and by PRI’s new membership opportunities that allows individual members to be part of the advocacy PAC.<\/p>\n

SEMA and PRI called out the RPM Act\u2019s lead sponsors — the Senate Environment & Public Works (EPW) Committee, and the House Energy & Commerce Committee — for their support.<\/p>\n

“We wouldn\u2019t have made it this far without this incredible effort by so many of our members,\u201d said SEMA President and CEO Mike Spagnola. \u201cThe RPM Act was one of the most bipartisan bills in the 117th Congress with over 165 lawmakers cosponsoring the legislation. SEMA and PRI will leverage the momentum we built during this congressional session, assess the current challenges the industry faces, and chart a new path forward for the industry\u2019s advocacy efforts at both the federal and state levels.\u201d<\/p>\n
