Joe Casella, Jordan Levitt and Chris Winter made bold announcements but were unable to complete the purchase during their allotted 90-day time frame. As NHRA commentator Brian Lohnes responded, when asked what happened to that trio, “They joined the list of thousands who have dump truck mouths and wheelbarrow asses when it comes to the racing business.”

But have no fear, the Koretsky family is here and they’ve come to the rescue of their home track. Kenny Koretsky, who famously earned the name “King Chaos” while driving NHRA’s Pro Stock class, is being joined by sons Kenny Jr and Kyle Koretsky in purchasing the property and will be certain to make the aging facility into a track that is friendlier to racers, fans and even media.

“It’s an honor to announce that Maple Grove Raceway will be under new ownership!”, Kyle Koretsky posted on Facebook. “Our family is super excited for this opportunity. We can’t wait for you to join us. Will see you at the Grove!”

Lohnes noted, in sharing the Koretsky family’s news, “Time for some GOOD news regarding drag strips and their ownership. Was a great pleasure to get the call up from the Koretsky family to lend some words and a voice to this. They worked their TAILS off to make this happen and here it is. On behalf of all of us that love the place, THANKS!”

While NHRA hasn’t officially or formally noted the change in ownership of this legendary facility, www.competitionplus.com’s Bobby Bennett was first to break the news in national media. Kenny Koretsky Jr told Bennett, “Kyle and I have been working on this for about a year. It’s been one of the hardest deals we’ve ever done. To hear today the money for sale has gone through is awesome,” he crowed. The younger Koretsky also mused that, had his family not put their money up, the property would likely have been turned into housing or warehousing. “We cannot afford to lose another track in the country,” Kenny Jr. said.

There will be changes, but they likely won’t be on the docket at the Mohnton racetrack until after NHRA starts its 2022 Countdown to the Championship in the Camping World Drag Racing Series the weekend of September 15-18. Track prep will likely be improved forthwith, but any further updates will have to be studiously planned and enacted after that national event.

The younger Koretsky brothers, Kenny Jr and Kyle, were brought up in an entrepreneurial family and, with Kyle (aka Kid Chaos) deep into competition in the Pro Stock class – he earned his first national event win at last year’s fall race on the zMax Dragway strip outside Charlotte, N.C. – with a Lucas Oil/NitroFish/KPK Development Camaro fielded by KB Racing, Kenny Jr. will be taking the reins to prepare for this new era of competition at Maple Grove Raceway.

NHRA has lost three tracks recently to projects outside motorsports, with first Atlanta gone in 2021, now Houston this year and, next year the closure of Wild Horse Pass Motorsports Park outside Phoenix, the fact that historic Maple Grove Raceway will continue its operations with a real motorsports-attuned family continuing to run and restore it, makes for one truly good news story.

{"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false
[3465,3470,5029
2,1379
post-84936","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-drag-racing","category-news","category-racing","tag-drag-racing","tag-maple-grove-raceway
["GET
