Now, it’s proving it’s mettle in a public setting.

During the recent Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals in Norwalk, Ohio, NHRA Nitro Funny Car racer Bob Tasca III piloted the the Mustang Cobra Jet 1400 to a run of 8.26, 167 mph during an exhibition pass, setting a new electric drag racing record in an exhibition pass. He then followed that up later in the day with a 8.12 at 171.97 mph. You can see both passes on the NHRA website, here.

Tasca is no stranger to the Mustang’s might. He’s the regular Nitro Funny Car pilot of the Motorcraft/Quick Lane Mustang, ranking first in the 2021 NHRA driver standings as of this past weekend.

The Mustang Cobra Jet 1400 was by Ford Performance in parallel to the Mustang Mach-E 1400 prototype to “demonstrate Ford’s technological capabilities and innovation skillset in EV technologies.”

“Since revealing the car, we’ve continued to fine-tune it and now know we’re just scratching the surface of what we may be able to achieve with this much electric horsepower in a drag racing setting,” said Mark Rushbrook, global director, Ford Performance Motorsports.

Cascadia Motion powers the Cobra Jet 1400 via PN-250-DZR inverters coupled to a pair of DS-250-115s, giving four motors total and spinning at up to 10,000 revolutions per minute. These motor-inverter packages run at 800 volts and up to 700 amps, with maximum output of 350kW per motor.

The powerplant is certainly doing it’s work, along with an expert driver, proving that an electric drag race future has massive potential for thrills.

Bob Tasca III pilots the Ford Mustang Cobra Jet 1400 to a record setting electric pass at the recent Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals

{"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false
[3465,3470,5029,3399,22
5624,1621,8512,1803,892,7,4640
post-80352","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-drag-racing","category-news","category-racing","category-nhra","category-event-coverage","tag-bob-tasca-iii","tag-electric-drag-racing","tag-ford-mustang-cobra-jet-1400","tag-ford-performance","tag-mustang","tag-nhra","tag-summit-racing-equipment-nhra-nationals
["GET
