Carroll Shelby\u2019s Personal 1966 427 Super Snake will hit the Barrett-Jackson Auction block from a private collection in the upcoming Scottsdale event.<\/h3>\n

When Barrett-Jackson announced that it would move it’s iconic Scottsdale Auction<\/a> to March as a result of COVID-19 protocols in Arizona, collector car enthusiasts mixed disappointment with hope. At least the event wasn’t cancelled. Now, they can (hopefully) breathe a sigh of relief and start to flutter in anticipation because it looks like this auction will be a doozy, and there’s a super star at the center: Carroll Shelby\u2019s personal 1966 427 Super Snake Shelby Cobra, the CSX 3015.<\/p>\n

The last remaining 427 Super Snake will cross the block as Lot #1396. So, what makes this Cobra special?<\/p>\n

\u201cCSX 3015 is arguably one of the most iconic, and important, American sports cars ever built,\u201d said Craig Jackson, chairman and CEO of Barrett-Jackson. \u201cIn 1968, Road & Track called it \u2018The Cobra To End All Cobras,\u2019 and it has more than lived up to that standard. When it first crossed our block in 2007, Carroll was there and told the story of how he got pulled over by the Nevada Highway Patrol doing 190 mph in the car. Its sale ended up setting a new world record for any Shelby vehicle sold at auction. Carroll often said, \u2018make history, then repeat it,\u2019 and that\u2019s exactly what we hope to do again. This car was truly \u2018Carroll\u2019s Cobra,\u2019 and it, along with other incredible vehicles selling from this private collection, will make collector car history next month.\u201d<\/p>\n

The car had been racing as a competition roadster in Europe, before it was shipped back to the United States in order to achieve Carroll Shelby’s mission to beat friend Stan Mullin’s Ferrari to Lake Tahoe. From the spirit of competition, genius is achieve. In order to transform the Cobra into the Super Snake, Shelby America added twin Paxton superchargers to the 427ci V8 and mated it to a 3-speed automatic transmission, creating the 427 Cobra Semi-Competition (S.C.) racing beast.<\/p>\n

The car has crossed the Barrett-Jackson auction block before, most recently in 2007, when Shelby himself shared his memories of the car. Now, it’s joining seventeen other collector cars from a private collection for the March event, including the first-production Thunderbird ever sold to the public, a 1965 Shelby Cobra CSX 4000 Series (Lot #1353) continuation car, a collection of Chevys including a 1969 Yenko Chevelle (Lot #1355) — one of only 99 built and the only one known to exist with a column-shift automatic transmission, and several late model exotics like the 2007 Porsche 911 GT3 RS (Lot #1353.1) powered by the legendary Mezger Flat-6 engine mated to a 6-speed manual transmission.<\/p>\n

The Super Snake, however, is clearly the jewel in the crown, particularly for the Shelby-loving Barrett-Jackson team. \u201cThe vehicles selling from this private collection are all absolutely spectacular, but the Super Snake is one of my all-time favorite cars in the world, bar none,\u201d said Steve Davis, president of Barrett-Jackson. \u201cFrom historic and late-model, domestic and import to supercar and muscle car, this private collection literally has it all. I\u2019m really looking forward to being at WestWorld when these vehicles cross the block, making collector car history and finding new homes with the next generation of collectors.\u201d<\/p>\n
