While this is a sad time of year for us race fans, this means a time to celebrate for all those hard-working drivers out there including the newest champions of the World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series and Morton Buildings Late Models. After a rather challenging season, both Brad Sweet and Brandon Sheppard would both find a reason to breathe a sigh of relief after racing to one of their most memorable championships ever at The Dirt Track at Charlotte.

Beginning with Brad Sweet, who closed out the 2020 World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series season the same way that he opened it, claiming a title after not even winning the final race. After continuing to battle alongside the No. 1S of Logan Schuchart throughout the shortened season, Kasey Kahne Racing’s own Brad Sweet would take down his nemesis during Friday night’s opening race. After crossing the finish line inside the top-5 in the first 30 Lap feature of the weekend, ahead of Schuchart’s sixth place effort, Sweet would clinch his second consecutive World of Outlaws NOS Energy Drink Sprint Car Series title.

“We overcame a lot of adversity, including four DNFs, to still win the points, which shows that our Kasey Kahne Racing team is resilient and able to pull off anything that we set our minds and efforts to.

Despite Schuchart’s loss of the season title, he and his Shark Racing team did not let this stop them from going after Saturday night’s Feature Race win. He set Quick Time in his Qualifying flight; finished second in his Drydene Heat Race; second in the DIRTVision Fast Pass Dash; and dusted Sweet in the 30-lap Feature to earn his seventh win of the season and third win at The Dirt Track at Charlotte.

“We came into this weekend saying we just wanted to end strong,” said Schuchart, of Hanover, PA. “We knew certain things were out of our control and we were not able to drive to a championship, but we made up for it a little bit by ending the World of Outlaws season with a win and that is awesome.”

Brad Sweet was not the only driver to earn back to back championships at The Dirt Track at Charlotte. Thanks to a bit of teamwork, the Rocket Brandon Sheppard and his Rocket1 Racing team pulled off what some are now considering the start of a dirt racing dynasty. Akin to Bill Belichick’s New England Patriots’ kingdom or Nick Saban’s run with the Alabama Rolling Tide, Rocket Racing’s own Mark Richards has quickly established himself as a dynasty builder and career maker with four titles won by his son Josh Richards (2009, 2010, 2013, 2016) and now three from the latest three time title winner Brandon Sheppard.

Despite his not driving to the greatest finish during this weekend’s Last Call weekend at The Dirt Track at Charlotte, Brandon Sheppard officially ended the season with a 282-point advantage on runner-up Ricky Weiss for his third championship in four years.

“This feels so incredible, man,” said Sheppard. “This team, these sponsors, everyone involved; it is unbelievable what we have been able to accomplish these past few years. We are continuing to take this in stride and rolling into next year with bigger goals in mind.”

A Big Congratulations goes out to all of the latest champions and we look forward to telling your story in the 2021 season.
