Maurice was the chief engine builder for Petty Enterprises and was the first engine builder to be inducted into the NASCAR Hall of Fame.<\/p>\n<p>Jim France, NASCAR Chairman, and CEO released this statement in regard to Petty&#8217;s passing.<\/p>\n<p><em>\u201cThe \u2018Chief\u2019 was one of the most talented mechanics in NASCAR history. He provided the power that helped Petty Enterprises define dominance in sports. While he was known for his work under the hood, Maurice played multiple \u201cbehind-the-scenes\u201d roles, doing whatever it took to help deliver his cars to Victory Lane.
