As the stars of the World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series roared into their second live race weekend since the COVID-19 shutdown, one driver would be the story of the weekend. While America witnessed a manned rocket launch into space this weekend, race fans would witness another rocket launch into an incredible two race sweep at Iowa\u2019s Davenport Speedway.<\/p>\n

After conquering the \u00bd-mile Speedway\u2019s \u00bc-mile in thrilling fashion on Friday night, the Rocket1 Racing machine of Brandon Sheppard was back at it on Saturday night from the inside out at this track\u2019s large and in charge \u00bd-mile. Drawing fourth for the Morton Buildings feature redraw, Sheppard had to start the 40-lap feature from the outside of row two behind Frank Heckenast Jr. of Frankfort, IL, and Ashton Winger of Hampton, GA, on the front row. Within five laps Sheppard was in command with every other driver doing their best to chase the rocketing away driver.<\/p>\n

Although a debris caution on Lap 27 created a restart, that allowed the top-5 in the field to catch Sheppard, but this wasn\u2019t enough to stop him from sneaking away from the field \u00a0as he tested every inch of the unique \u00bd-mile surface. In the end, this rocket fast driver drove away to a 2.086 second advantage as he crossed the stripe for his 58th career World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series victory. Completing a clean sweep of \u2018Inside Out\u2019 weekend presented by Hoker Trucking.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt feels so great to be back in victory lane,\u201d said Sheppard. \u201cI am so grateful to my team that I feel got our confidence back on Friday night despite a tough fought battle and this confidence is what made this final race weekend win. We qualified good, won the heat race, and that was the key to getting another win and I can\u2019t thank Mark, Dan, Austin, Joel, and all the guys back at the shop enough; this car has been a dream to drive.\u201d<\/p>\n
