Round 1 of RacingJunk’s March Motor Madness is in the books. Muscle cars dominated the opening round as they now account for 50% of remaining contestants. Other notables included both of the offroad contenders; the ’87 Squarebody Chevy and ’78 Ford Bronco advancing, while every supercar was knocked out of the competition!<\/p>\n

Match-up #1<\/strong><\/p>\n

1969 Dodge Charger: <\/span>840 <\/b>votes<\/span><\/p>\n

1970 Dodge Challenger: 691 votes<\/span><\/p>\n

Mopar-lovers must have had a tough time with this one, but the \u201869 Charger could not be topped as it makes it’s way into the Sweet 16.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Match-up #2<\/strong><\/p>\n

1973 AMC Javelin: 324 votes<\/span><\/p>\n

1969 Boss Mustang: <\/span>1,310 <\/b>votes<\/span><\/p>\n

The Boss Mustang dominated the Javelin from start to finish across all voting platforms, gathering one of the biggest wins of Round 1. Ford fans have an undoubtedly tougher match-up in Round 2 against the \u201869 Charger.<\/span><\/p>\n

1963 Split Window Corvette: <\/span>1,054 <\/b>votes<\/span><\/p>\n

1987 Buick Grand National GNX: 621 votes<\/span><\/p>\n

G-body lovers tried their best in this Round 1 bout but couldn\u2019t overtake one of Chevy\u2019s most iconic models, the Split Window Corvette. GM enthusiasts have a tough Round 2 choice between the \u201863 Vette and the \u201867 GTO.<\/span><\/p>\n

1990 Mustang GT: 488 votes<\/span><\/p>\n

1967 Pontiac GTO: <\/span>1,213<\/b> votes<\/span><\/p>\n

Foxbody cars are one the most financially accessible models for classic car and race enthusiasts alike, $10,000 will get you a complete and gorgeous car 9 times out of 10. That doesn\u2019t mean it stood a chance against the godfather of muscle, the \u201867 GTO. Pontiac took this one easy, a surprise to no one.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

1970 Chevy Nova: <\/span>1,100<\/b> votes<\/span><\/p>\n

2015 Shelby Mustang GT500: 568 votes<\/span><\/p>\n

Old school muscle vs new school technology, which dominates? We asked what our users wanted in their garage and they responded: the 1970 Nova dominated this one start to finish, proving old school still reigns supreme. The Battle of 1970 awaits Chevy fans as this win sets up \u201870 Chevelle versus \u201870 Nova in Round 2.<\/span><\/p>\n

1970 Chevrolet Chevelle: <\/span>1,385 <\/b>votes<\/span><\/p>\n

1970 Mercury Cougar Eliminator: 362 votes<\/span><\/p>\n

The Chevelle delivered the biggest blowout of the round with this win. The Cougar Eliminator is a fantastic model in it\u2019s own right, but it stood no chance against the name recognition and history behind the Chevelle.<\/span><\/p>\n

1969 Oldsmobile Hurst 442: <\/span>1,244 <\/b>votes<\/span><\/p>\n

1991 GMC Typhoon: 441 votes<\/span><\/p>\n

GMC\u2019s speedy little compact SUV was no match for Oldsmobile\u2019s classic muscle car, the Hurst 442. The Olds made 380HP with a 455ci engine out of the factory in 1969, and is now facing the 40OHP 2006 GTO in Round 2.<\/span><\/p>\n

2006 Pontiac GTO: <\/span>974<\/b> votes<\/span><\/p>\n

1997 Camaro Z28: 798 votes<\/span><\/p>\n

One of the closest head to heads of Round 1 was the \u201806 GTO versus the \u201897 Z28. Both of these cars left the factory with 6-speed manual options, but the 400HP accompanying the Pontiac likely helped it edge out a close victory.<\/span><\/p>\n

Match-up #9<\/strong><\/p>\n

1993 Toyota Supra: 729 votes<\/span><\/p>\n

2012 Cadillac CTS-V Wagon: <\/span>1,034 <\/b>votes<\/span><\/p>\n

The holy grail of tuner cars couldn\u2019t top Cadillac\u2019s 556HP station wagon, a result that definitely came as a surprise to some users. Caddy has a tough match-up in Round 2 against Dodge\u2019s 1978 Little Red Express Truck.<\/span><\/p>\n

1978 Dodge Little Red Express Truck: <\/span>958 <\/b>votes<\/span><\/p>\n

1997 Acura (Honda) NSX: 852 votes<\/span><\/p>\n

This was the tightest match-up of Round 1. Acura\u2019s widely popular 1990s supercar just didn\u2019t have the juice to beat Dodge\u2019s Little Red Express Truck. The Dodge pickup was one of their most unique trucks to date when it began production in 1978 and it was also the fastest American vehicle from 0-100mph that year according to <\/span>Car and Driver <\/span><\/i>magazine.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Match-up #11<\/strong><\/p>\n

2020 C8 Corvette: 674 votes<\/span><\/p>\n

1957 Chevy Bel Air: <\/span>1,116<\/b> votes<\/span><\/p>\n

We heard a lot about this match-up from Chevy Lovers. The \u201857, one of the most beloved classics versus the C8, their most modern performance option. Ultimately old school wins once again as the Bel Air edges out the mid-engine Vette.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

1965 Shelby Cobra: <\/span>1,351<\/b> votes<\/span><\/p>\n

2002 Ferrari Enzo: 464 votes<\/span><\/p>\n

Ford beats Ferrari in this Round 1 match-up as the Cobra beats the Enzo easy. Shelby enthusiasts will have a much tougher time against the iconic \u201857 Chevy in Round 2.<\/span><\/p>\n

1977 Pontiac Trans Am: 837 votes<\/span><\/p>\n

1932 Ford Coupe: <\/span>1,034<\/b> votes<\/span><\/p>\n

Ford edges out a close win here. The Bandit would be disappointed but he can\u2019t argue against the 1932 Ford Coupe deserving to move on to Round 2. Hot Rodders have a tough match-up against our offroad gearheads in Round 2 against the \u201878 Bronco.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

1971 Ford Maverick: 778 votes<\/span><\/p>\n

1978 Ford Bronco: <\/span>1,098<\/b> votes<\/span><\/p>\n

This head to head introduced the first match-up with a true offroad contender in our bracket. Ford\u2019s iconic Bronco edged out their 1970s Maverick in this close win moving it on to Round 2 against the \u201832 Coupe.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

1987 Chevrolet K10: <\/span>1,082 <\/b>votes<\/span><\/p>\n

2020 Audi R8: 872 votes<\/span><\/p>\n

Our second offroad contender, the Squarebody Chevy K10 took down Audi\u2019s powerhouse R8 supercar in a close victory, making it official that no supercar moves on to Round 2.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

1963 Plymouth Fury: 684 votes<\/span><\/p>\n

1972 Ford Gran Torino Sport: <\/span>1,202<\/b> votes<\/span><\/p>\n

Ford claimed another commanding victory as the Gran Torino Sport beat the Plymouth Fury on all platforms. Expect a much tougher match-up in Round 2 against the Squarebody Chevy.<\/span><\/p>\n
