GM has decided to focus on electric vehicle sales as they look forward into the predicted future of the auto market.<\/p>\n

\u201cOur team accepted the challenge to transform product development at GM and position our company for an all-electric future,\u201d said Mary Barra, GM chairman and CEO. \u201cWhat we have done is build a multi-brand, multi-segment EV strategy with economies of scale that rival our full-size truck business with much less complexity and even more flexibility.\u201d<\/p>\n

The company aims to appeal to customers ranging from the everyday commuter to the ultra high-performance enthusiast. One aid in achieving this is GM\u2019s new Ultium batteries, which feature energy options range from 50 to 200 kWh. This could enable a GM-estimated range of 400 miles or more on a full charge and 0 to 60 mph acceleration as little as three seconds. In-house engines should support front-wheel drive, rear-wheel drive, all-wheel drive and performance all-wheel drive applications.<\/p>\n

In furtherance of their EV-related goals, GM has said that Chevrolet, Cadillac, GMC and Buick will all be launching new EVs starting this year. The company’s first product using a third-generation EV platform and the new Ultium batteries has been displayed to the public already – it’s the Cruise Origin, a self-driving, electric shared vehicle. Other vehicles taking advantage of these new technologies should follow suit soon.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
