Driving with the wind blowing in your hair has always been a part of the Corvette mystique – that\u2019s never going to change. The first Corvette produced in 1953 was only available as a convertible, in fact. Building upon that heritage, the 2020 Corvette Stingray will be the first mid-engine Corvette convertible with a hardtop in the car\u2019s history.<\/p>\n

Brian Sweeney, Chevrolet U.S. vice president, told reporters, \u201cWe put the world on notice when we introduced the first mid-engine Chevrolet Corvette a few months ago, and now we\u2019re raising the bar with the first-ever hardtop Corvette convertible. And the convertible will be priced only $7,500 more than the entry 1LP Stingray coupe.\u201d<\/p>\n

Chevrolet says the mid-engine 2020 Corvette Stingray was engineered from the start as a convertible, maintaining the use of high-integrity die-cast parts and tunnel-dominant structure from the Stingray coupe. The hardtop was engineered to seamlessly stow into the body of the car while not losing any of the storage capacity of the coupe. The coupe\u2019s front storage compartment is also retained. Increased security, a cleaner look and a quieter cabin are other features of the hardtop convertible.<\/p>\n

Corvette program engineering manager Josh Holder said their \u201cgoal from the beginning was to make sure customers didn\u2019t have to sacrifice any functionality, performance, or comfort when choosing the hardtop convertible. We managed to keep the same design theme as the coupe, as well as the exceptional storage capacity and track capability.\u201d<\/p>\n
