NASCAR\u2019s Xfinity and Monster Energy Cup Series battled the <\/span><\/span>Roval at Charlotte Motor Speedway<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/u><\/span> this weekend and both series put on a great show for fans. Los Gatos, CA\u2019s AJ Allmendinger was back in the Kaulig Racing Number 10 for the win during Saturday\u2019s NASCAR Xfinity Series Drive for the Cure 250. Chase Elliott wowed the fans during Sunday\u2019s Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Bank of America Roval 400 recovering from running straight into the Turn 1 tire barrier for the win. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

2018 was <\/span><\/span>AJ Allmendinger<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/u><\/span>\u2019s last year as a full time competitor in NASCAR. AJ has made several appearances this year behind the wheel of the <\/span><\/span>Kaulig Racing<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/u><\/span> Number 10 and has equaled or surpassed his win record as a full time driver. AJ drove past series leader Christopher Bell coming from the infield portion of the Charlotte Roval to take the lead on Lap 48 and never looked back, except to block during the three restarts following his pass for the lead. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Chase Briscoe and Cole Custer, respectively, won Stages 1 and 2 and then faded. Richard Childress Racing newbie Tyler Reddick took his Number 2 to a second place finish while Austin Cindric continued his \u201cHey look at me!\u201d season taking his Penske Racing Number 22 to a strong third place finish. Bell faded hard after AJ\u2019s pass, finishing in 12<\/span><\/span>th<\/span><\/span><\/sup> place. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Chase Elliott<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/u><\/span>\u2019s drive during Sunday\u2019s Monster Energy NASCAR Cup Series Bank of America Roval 400 was reminiscent of Dale Earnhardt, Jr\u2019s \u201cPied Piper\u201d routine at Daytona and Talladega. He seemingly rose and fell through the ranks at will during the race. Elliott was leading during a late race restart when he appeared to drive straight into the Tums Heartburn Turn (Turn 1 of the roval).<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n

Everyone thought his race was over, saying that he\u2019d be lucky to finish the race \u201cwith that kind of damage,\u201d and \u201cIt\u2019s a good thing his Stage 2 win locked him into the Round of 12.\u201d The damage wasn\u2019t severe, though – and after pitting for some bearer bond (tape) on the hood and fenders, he\u2026 simply drove by everyone to regain the lead. Kyle Larson won Stage 1 while Elliott\u2019s <\/span><\/span>Hendrick Motor Sports<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/u><\/span> teammate <\/span><\/span>Alex Bowman<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/u><\/span> drove up to second place and benefited from Ryan Newman\u2019s late race mistakes to make the next stage of the Chase. <\/span><\/span>Happy Harvick<\/span><\/span><\/a><\/u><\/span> drove his Stewart-Haas Racing Number 4 to a third place finish. After the race, Elliott returned to \u201cthe scene of the crime\u201d for his Victory Burnout, jumping out of the car and allowing it to roll down to the inside tire barrier, to exercise the turn\u2019s demons. <\/span><\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
