The start of the month of August brought with it more than thoughts of the end of summer, especially for the champions of the World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series. After gearing up for one of the most prestigious feature races of the season, many were betting on one driver to take home the gold, but after the drop of the green flag another driver would prove that his will and hunger were just the recipe he needed to gain the gold in this weekend\u2019s USA Nationals at Cedar Lake Speedway.<\/p>\n

In only his second event for his new team, Scott Bloomquist Racing Team Zero, Chris \u201cSmokey\u201d Madden had the most consistent ride on the 3\/8-mile dirt clay track located in New Richmond, Wisconsin. After starting Saturday night\u2019s feature inside the top-5, the newest driver of the Team Zero #0M never dropped outside of the top four over the entire 100 laps of this race.<\/p>\n

Despite choosing not to use up his Bloomquist Racing machine early on in this race, Madden began to make his run to the front of the field in the final six laps. As this hard-charging driver made his drive for the race lead, there was only one obstacle that stood in his way – defending event winner Brandon Sheppard.<\/p>\n

Spending the better part of the race\u2019s final quarter battling door-to-door with the current World of Outlaws points leader, Madden found a way to dominate the bottom lane. While the two played cat-and-mouse for quite some time, Madden finally found the right moment to pull the trigger to pull ahead of Sheppard for the race lead after the World of Outlaws points leader bobbled on the cushion coming out of turn two in the final few laps.<\/p>\n

This gave Madden a chance to not only race to the lead, but to claim his first USA Nationals title.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt\u2019s pretty awesome to come back home and win,\u201d said Madden. \u201cWe drove our first race with Scott back at I-80 and had a shot to win that race but wound up second. So, to come here and back it up with a win, it\u2019s pretty awesome. It says a lot for Team Zero.\u201d<\/p>\n

This USA Nationals title also serves as SBR\u2019s very first win in 2019 under new part-owner Cody Sommer, and first with the World of Outlaws Morton Buildings Late Model Series.<\/p>\n

\u201cCody is a great guy. I didn\u2019t really know him that well until I came to do this, but he puts a lot of effort into this, and works as hard on these cars as anybody else does in the pit area,\u201d said Madden. \u201cI feel honored to both race for him and to obtain this amazing win.\u201d<\/p>\n
