Chris built the car for his wife, starting with a 1931 Ford body that his wife’s cousin had lying around in his junkyard. The body was in Chris’ garage just a few days later and a project idea was born.

Little more than a shell in the garage, the Rat Rod was clearly going to be a ground-up build. Chris started with the frame – 2×3 square tubing – then returned to the junkyard for an appropriate rear end. The drivetrain was eventually recycled from another project car, with a 355 Small Block Chevy motor dropped under the hood. More trips back to the junkyard and plenty of swap meets later, the Ford was complete. With floors made from old fencing and seats made from patio chairs, this monster carries the Rat Rod ethos all the way through.

“Reliable” and “Rat Rod” aren’t always compatible concepts, but Chris made sure this ‘31 Ford wasn’t just for show. It has traveled all the way from Wilwood, NJ to the Adirondack Nationals in Lake George, NY and to a multitude of shows in between. Chris also drives a 1954 Ford Customline (which we caught in this photoshoot as well), and you can find him and his wife at numerous events and shows with their gorgeous cars.","itemprop":"image"},{"src":"https://www.racingjunk.com/news/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/may_ratrod_car_2-min.jpg","id":"63531","title":"Calendar Car: Chris Flood’s 1931 Ford Rat Rod 1","alt":"Calendar Car: Chris Flood's 1931 Ford Rat Rod","caption":"","itemprop":"image"},{"src":"https://www.racingjunk.com/news/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/may_cars_w_model-min.jpg","id":"63529","title":"Calendar Car: Chris Flood’s 1931 Ford Rat Rod 2","alt":"Calendar Car: Chris Flood's 1931 Ford Rat Rod","caption":"","itemprop":"image"},{"src":"https://www.racingjunk.com/news/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/may_ratrod_car-min.jpg","id":"63532","title":"Calendar Car: Chris Flood’s 1931 Ford Rat Rod 3","alt":"Calendar Car: Chris Flood's 1931 Ford Rat Rod","caption":"","itemprop":"image"},{"src":"https://www.racingjunk.com/news/wp-content/uploads/2019/07/may_green_car-min.jpg","id":"63530","title":"Calendar Car: Chris Flood’s 1931 Ford Rat Rod 4","alt":"Calendar Car: Chris Flood's 1931 Ford Rat Rod","caption":"","itemprop":"image"}]" itemscope itemtype="https://schema.org/ImageGallery">

Chris Flood’s 1931 Ford Rat Rod is the May Calendar Car, and a star in its own right.

{"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false
[3711,3700,3470,4879
5566,4396,43,4892,5666,41,117,3846,4303,3934,4888
post-63526","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-classifieds","category-featured-vehicles","category-news","category-slideshow","tag-car-features","tag-featured-cars","tag-ford","tag-galleries","tag-james-cavanaugh","tag-news","tag-racingjunk","tag-rat-rod","tag-rat-rods","tag-rj-calendar","tag-slideshow
["GET
