Longtime nostalgia Funny Car driver Jim Maroney is now driving his way to the top of the NHRA Mello Yello Drag Racing Series ladder with the launching of his all new Top Fuel team.<\/p>\n

The successful owner of American Flowtech recently purchased the ride formerly owned by Top Fuel driver Mike Strasburg, who is now focusing on his duties as crew chief for Annie Whiteley\u2019s Top Alcohol Funny Car. Building on his five-race rookie season driving Terry Haddock\u2019s dragster and his brief partnership this year with aspiring Top Fuel racer Kim Davidson, Maroney has decided to go out on his own.<\/p>\n

\u201cAlthough things were going pretty good with Kim Davidson and his team, I just couldn\u2019t pass up a unique opportunity to be in control of my own destiny,\u201d said Maroney. \u201cGrowing up around this sport my whole life always made me want to drive all the way to the top and I can see no better way to do so than go Top Fuel racing.\u201d<\/p>\n

While it will take some time for his ride to be ready, Maroney is hoping to reemerge on the scene in time for the fall Las Vegas race and is also planning to compete at the Auto Club NHRA Finals in Pomona.<\/p>\n

Despite already having a few marketing partners, including Torco Oil, Cornwell Tools, Diamond Pistons, CP-Carrillo and E3 Spark Plugs, Maroney said that he is hoping to use his new team to promote another successful business like his.<\/p>\n

\u201cI may not be the youngest driver on the track today, but I believe my experience as both a successful driver and business owner can pay off to both myself as well as other businesses who are looking for a way to become a part of this sport,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n
