This should be fun! NHRA fans have decided the first round match-ups for NHRA\u2019s \u201cUnfinished Business\u201d competition being held during next week\u2019s 50th annual Amalie Motor Oil Gatornationals at Gainesville Raceway.<\/p>\n

Saluting the legends of the sport, the \u201cUnfinished Business\u201d competition returns famed stars of straight-line racing to the track where they\u2019ve competed in the \u201cGators\u201d when racing at their prime. All eight racers will have the opportunity to beat one another in identically prepared Toyota Camry racecars, custom-wrapped to emulate the cars they drove in their competition.<\/p>\n

Get ready to see \u201cBig Daddy\u201d Don Garlits take on Shirley Muldowney, \u201cThe Professor\u201d Warren Johnson versus Terry Vance, Kenny Bernstein against Joe Amato and Don \u201cThe Snake\u201d Prudhomme battle Ed \u201cThe Ace\u201d McCulloch on the quarter-mile dragstrip..<\/p>\n

Former driver and fan favorite Darrell Gwynn serves as honorary starter for this prestigious group of competitors; he announced the pairings online via NHRA\u2019s Facebook page.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u201dm excited to watch all of these legends of NHRA drag racing get back on the track,\u201d Gwynn said. \u201cJust because they\u2019re retired from professional drag racing doesn\u2019t mean they\u2019ve lost any of that competitive fire that makes them great. It\u2019s going to get heated out there and the fans are going to love it!\u201d<\/p>\n

The 50th annual Amalie Motor Oil Gatornationals race will be one of the most exciting venues outside of NHRA\u2019s signature Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals held each Labor Day weekend, as the staff of Gainesville Raceway and NHRA have combined to make this anniversary race exceptional.<\/p>\n

The third of 24 events on the NHRA calendar, this race features a newly repaved racetrack, the start of both Pro Stock Motorcycle and E3 Spark Plugs Pro Mod seasons, together with the beginning of NHRA\u2019s vaunted Factory Stock Showdown competition, together with Mello Yello professional and Lucas Oil sportsman racing from Thursday through Sunday, March 14-17.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
