Scheduled for November 19-20 in Placerville, Calif., the Hangtown 100 features a purse in excess of $100,000 for the two-day event.

In a first USAC National Midget event visit to 1/4-mile dirt oval Placerville Speedway, the inaugural Elk Grove Ford Hangtown 100 will feature both USAC National and Light Up the World Western States Midget racers. The Wicked Energy Gum Northwest Focus Midgets, presented by Cognitive Warriors, will also be on the event card. There will be an initial night of initial races, together with a second night’s series of feature races, including a 100-lap enduro that is the first 100-lap contest held for USAC midget racers since 2012.

“Midget racing is my true love,” said Elk Grove Ford’s Matt Wood. “I’m so excited to partner with Scott and Kami Arnold with Placerville Speedway, Mike Larson and the entire USAC team to put on this event. The support even prior to this announcement has been unbelievable.”

The format for this inaugural Hangtown 100 Midget race emphasizes passing. USAC will be using a modified Trophy Cup format employing a pill draw and a “draft”, similar to the one used during December’s “Junior Knepper 55” in Du Quoin, Ill. This format allows drivers to choose their own starting spots for heat races. Drivers then group-qualify, based on where they will line up in their heat race. The Tuesday night feature event on November 19th will be a 30-lap contest.

Wednesday’s Hangtown 100 feature will pay a grand prize of $20,000 to the winner. An additional $20,000 will be up for grabs to the overall Hangtown 100 champion who accumulates the most combined points between the two nights of racing. Appearance points are available only to USAC-licensed teams and drivers, counting toward the USAC Midget series championship standings. November 21st is the rain date for the event, if needed.

The Hangtown 100 is one of nine new events established on USAC’s 2019 calendar. “USAC Midget racing is as thrilling right now as it’s ever been and a huge event such as this just adds to that excitement,” said USAC Series coordinator Levi Jones. “It’s an honor for us to be involved in this race and to bring another major USAC event to the west.”

Placerville, set in the Sierra Nevada foothills of eastern California, has long been known as “Hangtown” for its history as the county seat of El Dorado County, where hangings would occur. The city has been a venue for motocross races over the years. Placerville Speedway, operating since 1965, has often been called “Knoxville on the Hill,” comparing it to the Iowa venue beloved by open wheel racers.

USAC, the United States Auto Club, has announced the richest two-day NOS Energy Drink USAC National Midget race in its history.

{"_jetpack_memberships_contains_paid_content":false
[3,3470,3699,5029
5614,1842,1606,41,6570,1632,3828,491
post-58540","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","hentry","category-dirt-track-racing","category-news","category-other-racing","category-racing","tag-anne-proffit","tag-dirt-racing","tag-midget-racing","tag-news","tag-placerville-speedway","tag-racing","tag-usac","tag-usac-racing

https://www.racingjunk.com/news/wp-content/uploads/2019/01/46854708_2037496102939484_6767521561046941696_o-min.jpg
["GET
