American flat track racing has long been the province of testosterone. For most of its history, this type of dirt track racing has been tight and menacing, with mostly guys aboard the bikes from Harley-Davidson, Kawasaki, KTM, Honda and more.<\/p>\n

Things sure have changed, with 115-year-old Husqvarna Motorcycles – started in 1903 – taking on American rider Shayna Texter, a leading contender for the 2018 American Flat Track AFT Singles championship. One of only two professional female riders currently competing in this customarily male-dominated competition, Texter earned five victories in 2017 (most of any rider) and finished third in the championship with Richie Morris Racing\/Honda.<\/p>\n

This year, as the first factory-supported rider for Husqvarna and with her own ST52 team, Texter made history the first Saturday of July by earning Husqvarna\u2019s firstr victory in AFT and the first for her team. The Pennsylvania rider led from start to finish in the Indian Motorcycle Lima Half-Mile on the Allen County Fairgrounds dirt track at Lima, Ohio. It was her 14th career AFT victory, marking her first win since forming her ST52 team for the 2018 season.<\/p>\n

Following her historic victory for Husqvarna at Lima, Texter became the singles class\u2019 seventh different winner this year. \u201cIt\u2019s so cool – it\u2019s so awesome. To get Husqvarna their first win in American Flat Track is a dream come true. Hats off to my entire team and everyone who has been behind me. It\u2019s been a long year and I\u2019m so happy to finally get this one.\u201d<\/p>\n

The American Flat Track visit to historic Weedsport Speedway on Saturday, July 6 marks the series\u2019 sole trip to the Empire state with its flat-track stars. The facility opened in 1955 and has a rich tradition of four-wheeled modified stock car racing. Its three-eighths-mile distance is the second of three short track races scheduled for the 2018 season; Texter finished second earlier this year in the short track event at Dixie Speedway in Woodstock, GA and earned the same result at the following event at Texas Motor Speedway.<\/p>\n

\u201cI\u2019m excited to be racing up in New York, and we\u2019re looking to carry the momentum from our last few rounds,\u201d Texter said. \u201cWe are continuing to make progress with the Husqvarna FC 450. Getting our first win of 2018 last weekend was huge!<\/p>\n

\u201cWe\u2019re continuing to dial the bike in, and I\u2019m getting used to it. I think we\u2019re making steps each and every week. I haven\u2019t come to the track with the same motorcycle [setup] two weeks in a row, so that says a lot about our development and the progress we\u2019re making so far. It was huge to get Husqvarna its first win.\u201d<\/p>\n

After 10 of 18 races for the AFT singles, Shayna Texter holds 134 third-place points, just one point behind Ryan Wells in second and 54 behind leader Dan Bromley (178).<\/p>\n

Saturday\u2019s race schedule begins with AFT Singles practice at 4:15PM EDT, followed by qualifying immediately thereafter. The first Singles heat race takes place at 7PM, followed by semis at 8:45PM. The 15-lap main event is scheduled to go green at exactly 9:29PM.
