Shelby will be building a very limited run of 1967 Shelby GT500 Super Snakes.\u00a0During the 1960s, Shelby produced a demonstration Mustang for Goodyear powered by the legendary 427-cubic-inch race engine famous from a Le Mans-winning Ford GT40, branding the car the Shelby GT500 Super Snake in the process. Horsepower output was supposed to me 520 which still might have been underrated\u00a0knowing Ford. Shelby will be building 10 examples for enthusiasts, priced at around $250,000.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cTheir continuation\u201d line allows them to bring classic cars back to today\u2019s roads. \u201cWe\u2019re fulfilling the dream of Carroll Shelby and Don McCain. Shelby built an engineering study dubbed the \u2018Super Snake\u2019 for high-speed tire testing by Goodyear in 1967,\u201d he said. \u201cThe program never came to fruition, until now,\u201d explained Shelby American president Gary Patterson.<\/p>\n<p>Shelby will be outfitting the Supersnakes with a\u00a0similar race-inspired 427 V-8\u00a0 with hp numbers\u00a0closer to 550. Both aluminum and cast-iron blocks will be available, backed by a four-speed manual transmission. Just like the original, the cars will have disc brakes and the famous triple stripes.<\/p>\n<p>All chassis will be from a 1967 Mustang donor\u00a0and will keep the original Ford VINs, but will include a specialized Shelby serial number for the official Shelby registry.
