For the seventh straight year, \u201cRacing Goes Safer\u2019s\u201d safety seminar will take place at the Toyota Grand Prix of Long Beach. The seminar, free and open to drivers (and crew) from all aspects of the motorsport spectrum, is presented by the Stand 21 Safety Foundation, in cooperation with the Long Beach Grand Prix Association and with support from SAE Southern California.<\/p>\n

The single-day conference, held Saturday, April 14 from 9AM to noon, takes place at the Long Beach Convention Center in rooms 203 A-B. No matter the type of vehicles an attendee races, this seminar applies to all racers, whether they run open- and closed-wheel vehicles on tarmac, whether they perform their feats on two- or four wheels, whether they race on dirt or sand.<\/p>\n

Confirmed speakers include Jeff Horton, INDYCAR director of engineering\/safety, who will talk about the development of an \u201caeroscreen\u201d cockpit head protection device. Dr Jacques Dallaire, of Performance Prime, shares \u201cThe Ability to Focus – The \u2018Holy Grail\u2019 of Performance and Safety.\u201d Julia Daly of Motorsports Performance will cover what racers need to know about brain concussions. Joe Powell, an EMS chief, will discuss how trackside EMS teams work to save lives.<\/p>\n

Also on the docket are Bob Bondurant, ex-F1 driver, multiple GT endurance race winner and racing instructor, INDYCAR and Formula E racer Oriol Servia, NHRA Funny Car driver Jonnie Lindberg (who gained fame at Phoenix this year for being punted by 16-time champ John Force) and 16-year-old open-wheel racer Courtney Crone, who was selected to be a Women\u2019s Motorsports Foundation Project Podium scholarship recipient this year.<\/p>\n

The three-hour program has met popularity over its six years and this year should be no different. Admittance to this racers-only event – including teams and family members – is free. Since the seminar takes place inside the Long Beach racetrack, access requires either a race credential or general admission ticket, which also allows viewing of the afternoon\u2019s on-track activities. Registered seminar attendees may also order a discounted track admission ticket for all-day Saturday.<\/p>\n
