After 22 of 24 races in the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA) Mello Yello Drag Racing Series 2017 campaign, Courtney Force, the driver of John Force Racing\u2019s Advance Auto Parts Chevrolet Camaro SS, sits third in the championship. And that\u2019s pretty incredible, considering she has won zero races this year.<\/p>\n
Right now, right here, it\u2019s crunch time.<\/p>\n
There are competitors who have won a title without earning a Wally winner\u2019s trophy in NHRA – Eddie Krawiec earned his first NHRA Pro Stock Motorcycle title without a win in 2011 – but Force definitely doesn\u2019t want to do it that way, even though she\u2019s got a realistic chance.<\/p>\n
Just 171 points out of the lead held by reigning titleholder Ron Capps (driving Don Schumacher Racing\u2019s Dodge Charger R\/T for NAPA) and 147 behind teammate and second-place driver Robert Hight, Force has held down the third spot since Reading, the second of six Countdown to the Championship playoff races.<\/p>\n

Coming into this penultimate race at The Strip at Las Vegas Motor Speedway, Courtney Force had a 25-21 record in 46 elimination rounds and has earned seven No. 1 qualifiers. She\u2019s gone to four final rounds this year, including two in the Countdown.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe\u2019re going to have to turn this thing around at Vegas. We\u2019ve got a good race car and need to be on it when we get there,\u201d Force said. \u201cHopefully we can continue to go rounds, because this championship isn\u2019t over yet. We know there\u2019s points-and-a-half when we get to Pomona; we\u2019ll see what we can do.\u201d<\/p>\n
If Force keeps up her consistent performance, she could easily end up being a spoiler for both Capps and Hight once the series hits the Auto Club Raceway at Pomona dragstrip November 9-12.
