Maryland International Raceway is suffering a great loss today following a fatal drag racing accident on Sunday. During the raceway\u2019s $50,000-to-win Super Bowl of Bracket Racing event, weekend drag racing warrior Thomas Dunford, from Tazewell, Virginia, failed to activate his brakes or parachute causing his dragster to travel through the sandpit, water barrels, and into the trees at the end of the track.<\/p>\n

Shortly after emergency personnel were called to the scene 60-year-old Dunford was pronounced dead. A Sheriff\u2019s Office Crash Reconstruction Team was also dispatched to the facility to investigate the accident. With the lengthy investigation set to take place and out of respect for the fallen driver and his family, the remainder of the day\u2019s racing activities were cancelled.<\/p>\n
