A mechanical failure in the first Super Cup Stock Car Series Twin 50 at the Midvale Speedway in Ohio had Brent Nelson feeling derailed. \u00a0Coming off a stunning 2016 season that saw him finishing as a runner-up to the champ, Nelson was ready to hit some additional high notes. \u00a0The hiccup in Ohio felt like a setback. \u00a0However, this past weekend’s efforts at Jennerstown have Nelson back on the horse as he took the pole, and ultimate victory.<\/p>\n

Saturday\u2019s<\/span>\u00a0American Racer \u201cNight at the Races\u201d presented by United Tire at Jennerstown Speedway Complex in Pennsylvania was not smooth sailing, however. \u00a0Several accidents kept tensions high. \u00a0Including one between Trent Gossar and \u00a0Mike Potter which ended with both cars being demolished.<\/p>\n

Nelson had an easy time with the first Twin 50 of the night, but had to fight hard for his second victory against Brian Harrison who’s desire to find that first SCSCS win is making him a tough competitor.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe second one I really had to work my butt off,\u201d Nelson commented.\u00a0 \u201cBrian ran a heck of a race and I had to wait for him to make a mistake.\u00a0 When he did I had to jump in and capitalize.<\/p>\n

\u201cIt was fun and, hey, we\u2019ve got two in a row,\u201d Nelson remarked.\u00a0 \u201cThis is a huge rebound for us.\u00a0 We made the right changes and had to loosen the car up.\u00a0 The car was tight in the first race and I knew as the night went on it was going to get colder.\u00a0 All I can say is we made the lucky guess and it was right.\u201d<\/p>\n

Nelson’s competition in race one, Jim Crabtree Jr, earned a fourth place finish in his No. 63 Jim’s Automotive \/ Judy’s Apartments Chevrolet.<\/p>\n

\u201cFirst race the car was real tight,\u201d Crabtree explained.\u00a0 \u201cWe did free it up a little bit, but then we freed it up too much off.\u00a0 If we wouldn\u2019t have had that little altercation there with Brian near the end of the race I think we maybe could have gotten another second or maybe could have snuck in there and won.\u201d<\/p>\n

The SCSCS\u00a0will be holding a rescheduled 50-lap event at Kingsport Speedway in Tennessee on\u00a0Friday, August 4<\/span>.\u00a0 The day after, the teams will cross less than an hour into Virginia for the regularly scheduled Lonesome Pine Raceway event on\u00a0Saturday, August 5<\/span>.\u00a0 Both races will kick off the start of the Southern Division championship in addition to the continued search for an overall series champion.<\/p>\n
