Only five hundredths of a second separated the Petersburg, West Virginia driver from Jim Crabtree Jr. and Harvey Harrison. Gossar accelerated back through the pack, where Berg, Crabtree, and defending SCSCS champion Harvey Harrison battled for the lead. Crabtree took point, but Gossar powered past him on a restart with 13 laps left. Though Crabtree put up a good fight, it was Gossar who took the checkered flag for the first time in his SCSCS career. Fortunately for Cox, tired teammate Berg kindly opened up the seat of his No. 7 Grant County Mulch Chevrolet. Due to the driver change, he&#8217;d have to start from the back of the field for the second Twin 50.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"comment-text \">After misfortune struck some of the frontrunners, Cox found himself in the top five and wound his way to second position before halfway. During the closing stages, Crabtree and Cox broke away from the remainder of the field and began a two-car battle for the win. to racing following a fiery accident in a road race the previous February.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"comment-text \">\u201cI feel like we\u2019ve had this coming for a while,\u201d Cox mentioned.\u00a0\u201cIt is impossible to express how the planets aligned tonight.\u00a0I came back after being hurt so bad in 2016.\u00a0We had this real high and then a crushing disappointment and to come back and get my first Super Cup win after being denied a couple times when I really think we should have had it is just more than you can put into words.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"comment-text \">Cox also explained just how tall a task it is to make it from the back to the front in only 50 laps.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span class=\"comment-text \">\u201cIt is so hard to go from last to first because no matter what series you\u2019re in, the last five guys in front of you will kill or die to stay out front, and they\u2019re really good,\u201d Cox said.\u00a0\u201cThomas Rohrbaugh, my spotter, came over the radio and said \u2018Stephen, there\u2019s 10 to go.\u00a0Do what you do.\u2019\u00a0I just flat-freaking stood on it and I was overdriving the car a little bit, This will mark the series&#8217; first visit to the concrete 3\/8-mile, and the first time competing in the state of Tennessee since 2008&#8217;s inaugural season.
