Right2Breathe\u00ae Inc., a 501(c)(3) non-profit organization based in Flemington, NJ has partnered with the\u00a0Allergy & Asthma Network<\/a> to provide free spirometry exams, educational materials and screenings for asthma during the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals this coming weekend\u00a0at Bruton Smith’s Z-Max Dragway in Concord, NC, April 28\u00a0– 30.<\/p>\n

The Right2Breathe\u00ae Free Asthma Screening program,<\/a>\u00a0which is funded by a grant provided by Novartis\u00ae, is the non-profit’s first to be held at a NHRA National Event. Right2Breathe\u00ae debuted their program at the NHRA California Hot Rod Reunion in October 2016. In Bakersfield, the Right2Breathe\u00ae team screened drag racing fans, drivers and vendors for COPD (Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease). Right2Breathe\u00ae co-founders Joe Morrison and Tim Charlet, who are second-generation drag racers, expect\u00a0to double those numbers by inviting fans, race team members and vendors to “Put their lungs on the Dyno”<\/em> during the NHRA Four-Wide Nationals.<\/p>\n

Asthma is a long-term (chronic) lung disease which causes coughing, wheezing and shortness of breath. Asthma cannot be cured, but it is quite manageable once a patient is diagnosed. Genetic and environmental factors like\u00a0family history, exposure to secondhand smoke and environmental irritants are all\u00a0risk factors for asthma.\u00a0An estimated 17.7 million adults and 6.3 million children in the United States live with asthma.<\/p>\n

One of the first steps in treating asthma is a simple, non-invasive spirometry exam, administered by professional Respiratory Therapists and other medical professionals in the Right2Breathe\u00ae Screening area. The area will be located in the manufacturers\u2019 midway for the duration of the event on the professional pit side of Z-Max Dragway.<\/p>\n
