The Sportscar Vintage Racing Association (SVRA) will host a hill climb event Oct. 6-8 of this year. The event will take place on Maple Gap Road near Robbinsville, N.C., only 11 miles from the famous “Tail of the Dragon,” known as one of the world\u2019s best motorcycling and sports car roads.<\/p>\n

The “Tail of the Dragon” is also known as Deals Gap. It has a long history<\/a> of providing exciting rides and plenty of thrills for motorists. Like “Tail of the Dragon,” Maple Gap Road is packed with tight curves and twists, but features the convenient addition of guardrails and earthen banks for increased safety. The SVRA event’s exact route is not yet decided, but it should include a bounty of high-speed stretches interspersed with slow, acute turns, switchbacks and a variety of surfaces.<\/p>\n

The SVRA hopes to get the local community involved with marketing and running the event. Unemployment is high in the area, so there’s a good chance that this event will actually have a significant positive impact on the local economy.<\/p>\n

Tony Parella, CEO and president of SVRA, expressed excitement about the event. “Adventurous thrill-seekers have been drawn to this region’s roads for over 100 years, so it’s packed with history and heroic tales,” he said. “We’re always looking to provide our drivers with exciting experiences and challenges. A hill climb conducted on public roads brings wonderful diversity to our schedule.”<\/p>\n

The new event will be called “Slaying the Dragon,” in reference to the famous nearby road.<\/p>\n
