Holley’s ARCA Ilmor 396 engine has powered the winning cars in the ARCA Racing Series again in 2016, following up on its success in the series the previous year. The engine, which entered production two years ago, is undefeated; of the 40 races it’s run, 40 have ended in victory for cars powered by the ARCA Ilmor 396.<\/p>\n
“It’s not just that the engine has won all 40,” ARCA President Ron Drager said. “It’s that there have been 25 different winners and 18 first-time winners in those 40 races. We had two goals for the Ilmor program: one, to contain costs and make racing more affordable for everyone, and two, to improve the on-track product, the level of competition. It’s been a huge success on both. The engine has done what it was designed to do \u2013 allow a broader base of teams to reach victory lane.”<\/p>\n

Drager’s comment is on point – one year after the engine made its track debut, over three-quarters of the entrants in the 2016 Daytona race drove cars powered by ARCA Ilmor 396s, including the winner, John Wes Townley.<\/p>\n
The engine’s success must be credited to Ilmor Engineering’s design, which was specifically geared toward ARCA racing. The engine is fast and durable, capable of going 1,000 miles between rebuilds.
