The Petersen Automotive Museum, in partnership with BMW, has announced the opening of its newest Armand Hammer Foundation Gallery exhibit, \u201cThe Unconventional Canvases of Keith Haring.\u201d The exhibit opened Dec. 17 and will run until June 4, 2017; it is located in the Armand Hammer Foundation Gallery on the museum’s first floor<\/span>. It includes five vehicles, all featuring the unique artwork of New York artist Keith Haring.<\/span><\/p>\n

\u201cKeith Haring was such an important and loved figure in the art world and we are honored to be able to display such a unique collection of his art,\u201d said Terry Karges, Executive Director of the Petersen Automotive Museum. \u201cWe had such a positive response after displaying his Land Rover in our lobby that we knew we had to share the rest of his art cars with our patrons. This new exhibit is a prime example of the Petersen\u2019s mission to merge the worlds of art and automobiles.\u201d<\/span><\/p>\n

\"Keith<\/p>\n

Gaining notability in the ’80s, Keith Haring is one of the most influential modern artists in the world. He uses both political and personal themes in his work, which due to its minimalist, almost universal figures can reach viewers from all walks of life, across borders of race, class, gender and sexuality. Haring created his automobile artworks during artist-in-residencies at the Montreux Jazz Fest and 24 Hours of Le Mans and at events for the Fast Art Gallery in New Jersey and Galerie Hans Mayer in D\u00fcsseldorf. He chose the imagery on the automobiles to reflect the different environments he witnessed at each location.<\/span><\/p>\n

The display vehicles are a 1962 SCAF\/Mortarini Mini Ferrari 330 P-2, a 1963 Buick Special, a 1971 Land Rover Series III 109 Station Wagon, a 1987 Honda CBR1000F Hurricane motorcycle and a 1991 BMW Z1.<\/span><\/p>\n
