Busch, Earnhardt, Jr., McMurray, it was Aric Almirola completing the top five.\u00a0 Jeff Gordon finished 12<sup>th<\/sup> in the final Dover race.<\/p>\n<p>Now major point implications came to the forefront with Dale Earnhardt, Jr. finishing third and by being just ahead of Jamie McMurray in fourth made all the difference of who got the Contender Round\u2019s final slot.\u00a0 Earnhardt made it in after tying McMurray in points with the NASCAR rule saying the position goes to the driver with the best finish of the round getting NASCAR\u2019s most popular driver into the next round, barely.<\/p>\n<p>Another unexpected shocker was the Lowe\u2019s Chevrolet of 6-time champion, Jimmie Johnson, eliminated after the first round of the playoffs.\u00a0 His 41<sup>st<\/sup> \u2013place finish came about after discovering an oil leak in the rear end housing on lap 106 and it could have been as simple as oil seal breaking.\u00a0 His Chad Knaus led team replaced the entire assembly sending him back out 36 laps down.<\/p>\n<p>The two other drivers eliminated were Paul Menard and Clint Bowyer.<\/p>\n<p>Those advancing were Challenger Round winners Matt Kenseth (Chicago), Denny Hamlin (New Hampshire) and Harvick, as well as Carl Edwards, Martin Truex Jr., Kurt Busch, Jeff Gordon, Brad Keselowski, Kyle Busch, Ryan Newman and Earnhardt, Jr.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/www.racingjunk.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/DIS_100415_021.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-attachment-id=\"19088\" data-permalink=\"https:\/\/www.racingjunk.com\/news\/according-to-harvick-dover-was-never-in-doubt\/nascar-sprint-cup-series-aaa-400-3\/\" data-orig-file=\"https:\/\/www.racingjunk.com\/news\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/10\/DIS_100415_021.jpg\" data-orig-size=\"4339,2893\" data-comments-opened=\"1\" data-image-meta=\"{&quot;aperture&quot;:&quot;4.5&quot;,&quot;credit&quot;:&quot;NASCAR via Getty Images&quot;,&quot;camera&quot;:&quot;Canon EOS-1D X&quot;,&quot;caption&quot;:&quot;DOVER, DE - OCTOBER 04:  Matt Kenseth, driver of the #20 Dollar General Toyota, and Denny Hamlin, driver of the #11 FedEx Office Toyota, lead the field to the green flag to start the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series AAA 400 at Dover International Speedway on October 4, 2015 in Dover, Delaware.
