Dieter Scharshmidt was a well known Canadian street racer of the late 1970\u2019s and early \u201880s. He bought his 1970 Cougar Eliminator in 1971 for $1200. It was powered by a 425hp built 351 Cleveland. Dieter worked as a semi-truck mechanic by day, but come 4:30pm you could find him on the back roads of Ontario blowing the doors off of anything that dared to challenge him. Rolling out of the garage on street tires with a set of slicks and a toolbox in the back, he\u2019d head out after work to make a name for himself. He described winning races as \u201cA flushed feeling like you\u2019ve accomplished something you never thought you could accomplish\u201d. Blowing the doors off Cudas and 454 Camaros alike, he hold\u2019s only one defeat as his time as a street racer, but swears is was the result of a false start on the Camaro SS\u2019s part. He sold the car in 1983\u00a0but saw it again in 2006 at the Speedorama in Toronto.<\/p>\n
