It’s a good tape measure on its own, but the removable magnetic tape makes it a must-have for your toolbox.<\/strong><\/h2>\n

A good tape measure is surprisingly hard to find. Don’t get me wrong, most are adequate \u2013 but a select few transcend their basic utilitarian purpose to become a truly “must-buy” tool. As an electrician, a car enthusiast, and an all-around DIYer, I own more tape measures than I can easily count. To date, I’ve only found one that checks (almost) every box on my list of must-have features: the DeWalt TOUGH Series 25′ tape measure with a removable magnetic tip.<\/p>\n

I can’t say enough good things about this tape measure. It’s survived some nasty drops from ladders and scissor lifts with no ill effects. In fact, both the case and the tape itself show minimal wear after months of daily hard use. These days, it seems that words like “tough” and “rugged” are thrown around as meaningless catchphrases by cynical marketing teams. That’s not the case here.<\/p>\n

\"Tool<\/h2>\n

The tape is also incredibly accurate. I tested it against many other measuring devices I owned, and it was consistently right on the money. On many tape measures, the hook is riveted in loosely, allowing variations up to an eighth of an inch \u2013 a serious problem. On the DeWalt TOUGH Series tape, the hook is securely mounted with three rivets, with very little movement. Once again, this hasn’t changed after months of daily hard use.<\/p>\n

\"Tool<\/h2>\n

Two of the three rivets sit slightly proud of the tape; this allows for the optional use of an included rare earth magnetic tip. This is ideal, as you don’t always want a magnetic tape measure. It adds versatility to an already great tool. Standout is average, and the only minor complaint I have is the lack of a secondary locking button on the bottom of the tape \u2013 that would make this tape measure just about perfect. Compared to other tapes I’ve seen, it’s priced reasonably well at around $25.<\/p>\n

Of the many I own, this is, by far, my favorite tape measure. Depending on how you use them, tape measures could be considered by some to be a consumable. If and when this one wears out \u2013 as all tape measures eventually do \u2013 I plan on replacing it with another one just like it.<\/p>\n
