Bottom line?\u00a0 It most likely ran out of gas.&lt;\/p&gt;\n&lt;p&gt;Segue off course for a second:\u00a0 It seems like it wasn\u2019t that long ago that racers (and clever street tuners) turned carburetors sideways on tunnel ram intake manifolds.\u00a0 The reasoning was at least twofold:\u00a0 This oriented the carbs so that they\u2019d actually fit better over the respective ports and likely more important, it meant you actually had better control of the fuel within the carb bowls.\u00a0 It more or less cured the lean condition we spoke of above.&lt;\/p&gt;\n&lt;p&gt;The dilemma is this (tunnel ram or otherwise):\u00a0 When a Holley 4150 or 4500-series carb is mounted normally \u2013 one bowl facing the front and one bowl facing the back of the engine, fuel rushes toward the primary (front) jets as the car accelerates.\u00a0 It also means fuel runs away from the secondary (rear) jets as the car accelerates.\u00a0 Not good.&lt;\/p&gt;\n&lt;p&gt;In the old days, there were all sorts of quick (and not-so-quick) fixes.\u00a0 Some worked.
