Ringbrothers has once again turned heads with the unveiling of their newest high-performance marvel, the 1987 Buick Grand National “INVADR.” Making its debut at the 2024 SEMA Show, this custom-built Grand National is a reimagined take on Buick’s G-body legend. With a staggering 1,246 horsepower and 1,000 ft-lbs of torque, “INVADR” pushes the envelope of both power and precision, making it one of the most potent and intricately crafted vehicles ever from Ringbrothers.
With 5,000 hours invested in its creation, “INVADR” retains the Grand National’s iconic angular design while adding subtle yet impactful customizations. The original plastic bumpers have been replaced with durable stainless steel versions, complete with machined aluminum bumper guards. The body’s clean, integrated look is further enhanced by reshaped fenders, extended rocker panels, and a Ringbrothers-designed carbon-fiber scoop, crafted to keep the engine cool and complement the car’s dark aesthetic. The whole vehicle is dressed in a BASF Glasurit Waterborne “Dark Vader Gray” paint—a fitting choice for such a formidable build.
“INVADR is all about presence,” says Ringbrothers co-owner Mike Ring. “We wanted a build that speaks to both visual and driving performance. It’s a mix of muscle and subtlety that makes it unforgettable from the moment you set eyes on it.”
At the heart of “INVADR” is an engine that defies expectations. Built by Duttweiler Performance, the all-aluminum 3.8-liter V6, paired with twin Precision 62mm turbochargers, pushes out up to 2,000 horsepower at peak boost levels. Tuned for daily driving, the setup produces 1,246 horsepower on E85 with a Bowler TREMEC T-56 Magnum six-speed manual transmission and a carbon-fiber drag-race shaft. For enhanced control, the car sits on a custom Roadster Shop chassis with a four-link rear suspension, paired with Penske three-way adjustable shocks.
INVADR’s stopping power comes from Brembo brakes, with six-piston calipers in front and four-piston calipers in the rear, set against carbon-ceramic rotors. Custom 528-series wheels from HRE complete the look, wrapped in Michelin Pilot Sport Cup 2 tires. Unique features like an integrated nitrogen-powered air-jack system allow for rapid tire changes.
Inside, the Grand National’s cabin blends custom craftsmanship with retro styling, keeping true to its classic roots while boasting updated details. Upholstery Unlimited hand-crafted seats, a reconfigured dashboard, and a Ringbrothers carbon-fiber steering wheel complete the high-end, driver-focused interior.
As Jim Ring puts it, “INVADR is a build we’ll remember for years. This Grand National is an homage to Buick’s G-body legacy, elevated with top-notch fabrication and performance.”
