It’s our favorite dynamic duo: husband and wife team Rick Guzman and Cherry Rosie! In this week’s Pinup Pole Show Pinup of the Week, you’ll see pinup model Cherry Rosie posing with Hugo Monterosso (of Fleetsiders cc)’s 1966 Chevy C10, photographed by Rick Guzman at Tonya Kay’s Pinup Pole Show. Let’s talk to Rick about how he nails these legendary auto/model shots!
TONYA KAY: What makes your perspective on a standard format unique?
RICK GUZMAN: Everyone has a style. I like to take my viewers and drag them on the asphalt. A car, a model looks so different from the floor. Most of the pictures that get the most attention are shot from the ground up. You can walk around the same car 100 times, but once you see that car from that angle, you're taken to another level. The fact that you never see that angle of a vehicle means it's breathtaking when you do. It's my favorite style to shoot. That's the one angle I make sure to get on every car.
TONYA KAY: What tips do you have for other photographers just starting to photograph cars or models?
RICK GUZMAN: Don’t stop shooting! For years and years I shot with a point and shoot. I was made fun of in person and ridiculed online. An online friend who has been my mentor from the start until today helped me. He once took the time to email me and tell me to not let what anyone said get to me. To keep shooting no matter what. I did. During the time I didn't have the money to get a pro camera I kept shooting with my point and shoot. Although my pictures weren't great in quality, they kept evolving. My style began to develop, my eye for it matured. Why wait until you have the money for an expensive camera? You have to learn somehow. We all started on training wheels. Photography isn't any different. Shoot!
TONYA KAY: What’s next in your creative arts?
RICK GUZMAN: Cars are still my passion. Wildlife is in my distant future. I work seven days of the week in the animal field, full time in the medical side and part time in the legal aspect. Animals run in my blood. I've always had over a dozen pets at any given time. At some point in the future, I'd like to be in a place where wildlife is around me. Documenting it through photography is a dream of mine…

I like to go back and see those old gems from time to time. I'm proud of my old images. They have made me what I am today. They all taught me something.
