NHRA Clarifies 2019 Mountain Motor Pro Stock Exhibitions

NHRA has clarified the Mountain Motor exhibitions that will take place at four events during this year’s 24-race Mello Yello Drag Racing Series campaign. All events will occur outside the Countdown to the Championship playoffs that commence following the Chevrolet Performance U.S. Nationals on Labor Day weekend.
Three of the four exhibitions will be open to eight-car fields while a third is comprised of NHRA’s traditional 16-car entries. The first event takes place April 12-14 at the NHRA SpringNationals on the Houston Raceway Park dragstrip in Baytown, Texas.
A full, 16-car Mountain Motor Pro Stock field will make exhibition runs during the NGK Spark Plugs NHRA Four-Wide Nationals on April 26-28 at zMax Dragway in Charlotte, NC. This 4-Wide event was the first to be held for NHRA Mello Yello drag racing.
On June 14-16, the Mountain Motor Pro Stock cars will perform eight-car exhibitions during the Thunder Valley Nationals at Bristol, Tenn. Held on Bristol Dragway, this event offers great vantage points for all attendees. The fourth exhibition is scheduled for July 5-7 during the New England Nationals at Epping, NH’s New England Dragway and will complete the quartet of shows.
“We are looking forward to seeing the Mountain Motor Pro Stock category more in 2019,” Ned Walliser, NHRA vice president of competition confirmed. “These drivers are eager to run at NHRA national events and offer an exciting new showcase for fans.”
Fans should enjoy the throwback hood scoops, dynamic paint schemes and wheel-stands for the first 100 feet from launch that are hallmarks of the Mountain Motor cars. Fan appreciation of the initial showcase last year at the U.S. Nationals convinced NHRA to bring these cars back again in 2019.
