NHRA Adds Blown Nitro Engine Combo for Top Alcohol Classes in 2026

NHRA Reschedules Countdown Races This update aims to offer a valuable bridge for teams looking to eventually make the leap into the nitro ranks of Top Fuel and Funny Car.

Starting in 2026, teams in both Top Alcohol categories will be allowed to run supercharged engines on nitromethane fuel—joining the existing options of supercharged methanol and injected nitro combinations. NHRA officials say the move not only adds flexibility but also provides a crucial training ground for teams transitioning to the pro-level nitro categories of the NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series.
