Ida Zetterstrom has been getting acclimated to life in the United States, as the 2023 FIA Top Fuel champion readies her campaign for the 2024 NHRA Rookie of the Year. She moved to Brownsburg, close to the JCM Family Racing team headquarters, joined the squad in Bradenton, Fla. as teammate/mentor Tony Schumacher strived to win the $250,000 up for grabs at the PRO Superstar Shootout held nearly two weeks ago, and has now acquired substantial sponsorship for her Top Fuel JCM entry.

After relocating from the Aland Islands of Finland last month, Zetterstrom admittedly used her successes in European racing to advance her American career. Not only does she have her Top Fuel championship from last season atop her resume, but Zetterstrom has enjoyed great success competing on both the FIA and FIM circuits in Europe. She’s a two-time champion in the Super Street Bike FIM drag racing category and won her first Super Street Bike crown in 2018, becoming the youngest competitor and first woman in the category to gain this level of success.

Zetterstrom’s accomplishments caught the eye of VP Racing. The market leader in high-performance racing fuels decided to present the racer with VP’s ‘Special Award’, one that recognizes a racer who had an exceptionally standout season, as Zetterstrom’s 2019 campaign most notably was. With knowledge of her achievements on the company’s radar, it was a matter of time before the partnership ensued.

“I’m so excited to now officially be working with VP Racing, as I begin my NHRA journey,” Zetterstrom said. As she competes in a minimum of six NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series contests in 2024 before contesting a full-season campaign alongside eight-time Top Fuel champion and 86-race winner Tony Schumacher in 2025, “I’ve had a relationship with VP since 2019, and we’ve worked together on various projects while I was racing in Europe, so it’s incredibly gratifying that it has developed into now hitting the track this year with an official partnership in place,” she continued.

VP Racing is joining JCM RACing as an associate partner, with branding on Zetterstrom’s dragster, her fire suit and on team crew shirts. She will wear a custom-designed, VP Racing-branded helmet during all events on her 2024 schedule. Schumacher’s Leatherwood Distillery Top Fuel dragster will feature the VP logo through all 21 races on this year’s NHRA calendar.

“We’re excited to be part of Ida Zetterstrom’s historic quest in the 2024 NHRA season,” noted Bruce Handel, senior vice president of global sales for VP Racing. “Ida has impressed us for several years, winning VP’s Special Award in 2019 for her outstanding performance racing Super Street Bikes in Europe. Joining her, as she enters the NHRA’s premier professional series is fitting for the global leader in performance racing fuels, motor oils and additives,” he said.

The 2024 NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series kicks off in just two weeks with the 55th annual Amalie Motor Oil NHRA Gatornationals at Gainesville Raceway close to the city of the same name in Florida. Ida Zetterstrom’s debut race will be announced at a later date.
