The Ford Boss 429 wasn’t just another big-block—it was a full-on NASCAR weapon that forced its way onto the street. In the late ’60s, Ford Motor Company was battling Chrysler’s Hemi dominance, so they developed the Boss 429 specifically for NASCAR competition. Because of homologation rules, Ford had to sell it to the public, which led to the creation of the Boss 429 Mustang. The engine featured semi-hemispherical combustion chambers, massive ports, and race-ready internals, all built for sustained high-RPM abuse on the oval, even if its officially rated 375 horsepower was famously underrated.
