Camaro Returns from the Ashes — And It’s Bringing Buick Along for the Ride

Just when GM fans thought the Camaro had taken its final lap, GM looks ready to pull the cover back off one of its most iconic nameplates. Reports say the Camaro is making a comeback for 2028, built on GM’s rear-wheel-drive Alpha 2 platform, with production expected to begin in late 2027.

This doesn’t sound like another crossover wearing a famous badge. Early reports point to a true rear-drive performance car, and yes, there’s already plenty of talk about V8 power staying in the mix. For muscle car fans, that’s the kind of rumor worth losing sleep over. But here’s where it gets even more interesting: Buick is jumping back into the car game too. GM is reportedly developing a brand-new Buick sedan on the same platform, marking the brand’s return to sedans in the U.S. after years of SUV-only living.

This all confirms that manufacturers are now singing a different tune about their futures. What was once a full charge (no pun intended) for EVs now seems like v8s, burnouts, and ripping up tracks are not going anywhere. That means the Camaro, the next Cadillac CT5, and a new Buick four-door could all share the same bones. In other words, GM might be building an entire lineup of rear-wheel-drive fun again — and honestly, we’re here for it.

For now, details are still limited, but if the rumors hold, the pony car wars may be far from over.
