Some amazing autos crossed the block at Barrett-Jackson Las Vegas this year, as occurs at every Barrett-Jackson auction. We've chosen 12 of the coolest for you to enjoy here, from high-end rides to quirky cars of all sorts!
Our first pick definitely falls into the first category. It's lot #440 - a 1932 Ford custom speedster built by Steve’s Engines and Street Rods. Running on a GM 350ci V8 engine, this sweet street machine came from The Vault Portfolio and sold for $42,900.
Lot #469 at the auction, this beautiful Chevy comes equipped with a L78 396/375hp 8-cylinder engine mated to a 4-barrel Holley carburetor with 11.0:1 roller cams. As you can imagine, the sound of it has heads turning all down the road! It sold for $60,500.
This particular pick is less notable for its construction than for its story. Lot #70 was specially outfitted for 17 years of nonstop travel, from 1970 to 1987, and it's visited over a hundred different countries for more than 380,000 documented miles. A reliable 1600cc 4-cylinder engine with a 4-speed manual transmission keep it rolling along as faithfully as ever. It sold for $9,020, but a history like this bus' is priceless.
This one is just a really cool car. Originally built in Windsor, Ontario as a factory 4-speed, it received a full restoration a few years ago. A 340ci V8 engine with performance headers linked to a 4-speed manual transmission with a pistol-grip shifter give it style and power. With clean lines, a vibrant paint job and that muscle car rumble, what's not to love? This car, lot #327, sold for $26,400 - not at all unreasonable for a build of this quality.
Willys have an inimitable charm to them no matter the condition, but this one has no faults in that area either; with all new chrome and stainless and a smooth-running 225ci V6 Buick engine, it's got the performance to back up its looks. It benefited from a frame-off, nut-and-bolt restoration, and is thoughtfully supplied with an extra wheel and tire to help keep it running in top form for many years to come. Lot #143, it sold for $37,400.
Yes, we already had a Nova on this list, but what can we say? It's a great model. This example is quite different from the earlier one, however, as an over-the-top custom sporting a 6.0-liter LQ4 engine with a Roush GMT-900 twin-screw blower backed by a 4L80E automatic transmission. That unique paint is 2-stage PPG Gunmetal Gray locked in by three coats of clear. Selling for a hefty $165,000, this cool custom was lot #736.
Originally purchased by the Cascade County Road Department in Great Falls, MT, this Dodge now lives out its days as a highly-polished show car, but preserves the capabilities with which it was made. It still runs on the original, restored 230ci inline 6-cylinder engine with 2-speed transfer case located behind a 4-speed manual transmission, and has a date-correct 7,500-pound winch mounted at the front. The spectacular wood bed is paneled with new custom red oak milled specifically for this build. It was lot #663 at the auction and sold for $71,500.
Definitely one of the more out-there picks on our list, lot #158 is a custom Street Glide with a multitude of one-off features which sold for $40,700. Powered by a custom T-Man 107ci 2-cylinder engine, it rides on a custom 30-inch front wheel. In case you somehow didn't notice, it sports a custom front fairing with a matching custom-shaved fuel tank. We don't really know how it would feel to ride this unique machine, but it sure looks cool!
A 2018 NASCAR Cup Series race car, lot #3001 was fielded by the famed Team Penske and driven by champion driver Brad Keselowski to a victory at the annual Southern 500. Its throwback paint scheme was a tribute to a 1990 design driven by certified speed demon Rusty Wallace. It sold for a whopping $250,000, and for a good cause - the money went to United Way serving southeastern Michigan.
This awesome off-road-ready custom began life as a Camper Special model. It puts power to the pavement - or whatever else it's driving on - with a built FE 390ci 8-cylinder engine mated to a rebuilt heavy-duty C6 automatic transmission with a shift kit. Its frame was professionally shortened to 115” (a 16" reduction) and it rolls on BFGoodrich Mud Terrain tires wrapped around Pro Comp wheels. Lot #44 in the auction, it sold for $12,100, which is comparatively little to pay for the amount of fun you can have in it!
Now here's a sort of car one rarely sees as a hot rod. It sure works as one, though! Fueled by a V8 engine with a C4 automatic transmission and 8” Ford rear end, it packs a powerful punch contained in a classic and classy package. Power windows add a little bit of modern convenience. It sold for $19,250 and was lot #180.
The recent recipient of a professional nut-and-bolt restoration and build, our final pick is lot #670. It's powered by a new Chevrolet Performance 350ci small-block V8 engine producing an impressive 300hp. The front suspension (with power steering) is new too, and its Toreador Red paint looks as dramatic as the name implies. A custom-fitted 1960 Impala dashboard fitted with new AutoMeter gauges puts the icing on the custom cake. This neat machine sold for $82,500 at the auction.
