We saw amazing vehicles, built with love, and raced and shared with true enthusiasm. It was the celebration of the love of race and performance we were hoping for. We look forward to continuing the celebration in the coming months with other virtual events, so stay tuned.
And now, with no further delay, we’d like to extend a huge and hearty congratulations to Best of Show winner Glenn Sinon and his 1972 Ford Maverick, which was the overwhelming favorite in user voting. That being said, all four contenders were fantastic! You can see them here: Best in Class winners/Best in Show contenders.
From Glenn’s description of the Maverick, “This car is 90% owner built in backyard garage. I spent roughly 2000 hours over 7 years. Many custom modifications made to body, interior and engine compartment. Full custom coil over front suspension, 13” disc brakes at all four corners. Owner built engine (first one) that dyno’d at 340hp. Custom gauge bezel, console, dash and seating. Trunk upholstered to match.
“Car is painted a custom mix of PPG EHP waterbase and D8152 glamour clear. Subtle stripes down low, and up hood that continues across the cowl and onto the dash for a unique touch. Body has a custom front spoiler and valance with driving lights, shaved drip rails with an added reveal that wraps quarter glass, carbon fiber hood and trunk, swapped out rear tail pan with one for a 68 Shelby with sequential taillights. Custom rear valance as well. 17″ front and 18” rear Billet Specialties Vintec Dish rims and BFG tires.
“The car was built to be a driver, and drive it I do. After being on the road for a year I checked one off the bucket list by showing the car in the Detroit Autorama. I was going with the attitude that even last place was still cool, hey, its the Detroit Autorama! But in the end I received not only a First in class, but also 1 of only 4 Outstanding Paint awards out of the roughly 850 cars entered. I could go on and on about this car, my hands have touched every single nut, bolt, clip and wire in this car. I only farmed out the exhaust, transmission and the upholstery. Although you could say I was a part of that as he and I did all the fabrication while he did all the sewing.”
