Mitzi’s Pinup Corner: Rockie Gold

Click Here to Begin Slideshow Hot rod and pinup photographer Mitzi Valenzuela is known for having her finger on the pulse of both classic and rockabilly car culture. As part of that, Mitzi produces pinup contests for shows all over the world. Here she shares photos of the competitors and some super sweet rides. Meet our third finalist in the Mooneyes Yokohama Hot Rod Custom Show Pinup Contest, Rockie Gold: "Growing up as a daddy's girl in San Diego, California, I was always around cars, motorcycles and anything that went fast in dad's garage. My father raced motorcycles and cars professionally; it became a part of our family and daily life. I, thankfully, tagged along to car shows and exhibits, where I fell in love with the culture, people and, of course, the pinup girls. "As a young girl, I idolized them and stared at how they moved and smiled, especially fascinated with the women who could keep their poise, exude confidence and have fun all while fully clothed and classically covered. These women took pride in their style and grace. As an apparel designer, I appreciate the detail of vintage garments and accessories to no end. "Fast forward to my adult life… I never thought that I would actually be able to attend Mooneyes in Yokohama, let alone enter the pinup contest for one of the biggest custom shows in the world! Entry in the Mooneyes Japan Pinup Contest is my first, and I couldn't be more excited to be one of the finalists. Being around the cars and motorcycles comes naturally, making the opportunity to do pinup a no brainer. If you make it to the show Dec. 1 in Yokohama, please come by, say hi and wish me luck!"
