Click Here to Begin Slideshow This week’s Pinup Pole Show Pinup of the Week is none other than the living mermaid herself, Heather Lou, along with Monica Kay! Here you will see these Pinup Pole Show stars posing with Tim Russell’s 1933 Plymouth Sedan, photographed by Shane Karns at Tonya Kay’s Pinup Pole Show. Let’s hear more from Heather Lou about her love for music and fashion: TONYA KAY: What is your favorite style of music? HEATHER LOU: I mean... where do I even begin? Music is life! It fills the heart, saves the soul and time and time again causes major goosebumps for every reason. Decades alone make me swoon. 40’s, 50’s, 60’s, 70’s, glam, doo wop, old school soul and country, bluegrass, blues, jazz, swing, ska, reggae, world music, spa music, old timey French music, show tunes even. West Side Story and Grease are at the top of that last bit for sure. Pretty much all music except for maybe death metal. However, there could be a time and place. I won’t rule it out completely. TONYA KAY: When did you begin singing? HEATHER LOU: I never really set out to be a singer. It all happened quite accidentally as an actual profession about 15 years ago. I did take voice lessons just for fun back in high school as a sort of elective. My teacher was an amazingly accomplished opera singer. That’s pretty much where it all began. Who knew that one day I’d conquer my massive stage fright and make a living in this way?! Fun fact: I, too, can hit those glass-shattering high notes. TONYA KAY: Who are your idols in the fashion and musical worlds and why? HEATHER LOU: First and foremost … my fashion queen, the one and only Betsey Johnson. Tutus, glitter, pink everything, ultra girlie and peppered with all kinds of retro vibes. The most magical part is that Betsey and her amazing daughter, Lulu, cartwheeled into my world a few years ago. I am the luckiest girl on the planet to now know these inspirational beauties personally. We could get into my affection for pearls and Paris, with many thanks to Gabrielle Bonheur aka “Coco” Chanel, but there is a part two to this question that I must get to now. On the music side of my fashion obsession, the list is endless! I’m all in for self expressing any which way you choose on any particular day, then changing it up the next - a balance of timelessness with an out-of-the-box twist. What shall the superhero persona of the day be? Here’s my running list (it’s a long one and I’m probably leaving many out): Cher, Madonna, Debbie Harry, Chrissie Hynde, Cyndi Lauper, Stevie Nicks, Elton John, Diana Ross, Elvis, Wanda Jackson, Dolly Parton, Ann-Margret, Marilyn Monroe, Brigitte Bardot, The Ronettes, The Beatles, David Bowie, RuPaul, Lady Gaga, Lady Miss Kier, Gwen Stefani, etc., etc., etc.
